Great build Brent!Glad youve got a working simple unit..When I was poking around with this idea, the thought of providing a "rental unit"for good standing 49cc scoot members crossed my mind,as lots of folk just have one build..

I built another one of these. This time I made the end of the shaft smaller so it could work with more common 3/8" drills. I also bought a different style of insert cutter, in addition to the same style used for the first. I thought it may make a better cut at the base, if it could reach. I bought total generic, not branded as Shars, and they were around $20 for both instead of closer to $30 for one. Not sure that the quality is exactly the same. Could just be luck, but the screw that holds the insert snapped half of the head off just trying to tighten it the same as any of the others. Prob lots of fun to try to get out. They also were marketed as 3/8" / 10mm. They're much closer to 10mm and don't fit a hole drilled with a 3/8" bit. I got something like 9.92mm diameter IIRC (3/8" = ~9.5mm). It turns out most of the above weren't great ideas. I did test the 3/8" shank cutter today on 2 cases. It works, but I noticed a lot of vibration somewhere during the first half. The smaller section bent a little. The bearings still seem to keep it steady, but the drill has to wobble. I kept working with it and did both sets of cases, but it shakes like a Harley. The other fail was the alternative boring tool. It can't reach the bottom, even with the cutter shaved paper thin so it doesn't hold it up anymore than it has to. The bearing sits too tall to let it work.
