Here's more data for you. Actual prices paid at the pump for premium from April 9, 2017 to August 29, 2017. Pretty much bounced around from $2.70-$2.90, mostly varying by where I bought gas. Premium swings a lot from station to station. Two stations next door to each other may be the same price for regular, but premium can be $0.20 to even $0.30 per gallon different between the two.

I find it interesting here in New England, the storage facilities have fuel that's been paid for already and being delivered to local service stations and that fuel has gone up in price the past week. Gotta love America.

Fuel and other materials can be priced two ways; what you have in it, and what it will cost to replace it.
Those Texas refinery shutdowns will have a big impact on fuel prices for a few months. Oil delivery in and out of the ports will have an impact on crude prices for a while also. There is lots of damage down there.

they claim the pipeline will be back up Sunday, but what good is it going to do, when 14 of the refineries that put fuel in it, are still under water. They shut down the aviation fuel and diesel line first, then yesterday they shut down the gasoline line, Those colonial lines serve the entire south, and all the way to new Jersey. Biggest pipelines in the US. Most stations here are out of regular 93, and 87 is through the roof. Where I usually get my 93 non ethanol they refuse to sell it to consumers now, so I have had to go way out of town and stockpile. Walmart has the VP racing fuel for 4 cycles in the 1 quart metal can for 5 something, I grabbed one for emergencies, and keep in in the helmet box, I can always refill it. 1 quart is enough to get me home or to another station

Keeping a 'reserve' can is a good idea. I use a SS water bottle, -just changed out the O-ring. I keep it fresh by dumping it in the tank b4 I fill up. The shiny inside surface is also good for detecting any water or impurities in the fuel before I fill the tank or my 5-gallon storage can. If I find impurities I can dump it and get to another station.
The damaged refineries will come back online soon but the gas prices will fluctuate (high) for a long time.

Just for interest here in the U.K. we have to pay an eye watering $6.32 per U.S gallon for regular gas.Just another reason to love your scoot geoff

They aren't shy with the gas hikes up here. Last time I went by the gas station in town(2 or 3days ago) regular was $2.2_. I went to fill the TMAX up this morning, just before 7AM, and the station in town was $2.54 for regular. I went to take the trash a 1PM and the same station was $2.69 for regular. Should be at UK prices by Monday at this rate.

Gotta love America. that's because of what its going to cost to replace the fuel they sell. you are paying for the next fuel delivery, not the current inventory.
