we are stuck here, 85 mph winds, will probably destroy the roof and the landlord won't fix it, so we will be homeless, I have 34 cents to my name. so we are screwed, I have worked my ass off for everything I own and now this, I'll b down to nothing, I can't get renters insurance because I'm poor and it affects my credit, so I have to risk everything I worked for because insurance companies think I'm unworthy of protecting it

I'm on the West Coast My neighborhood has made the decision to stay. We are in a very small zone that is not considered a n evacuation zone. It's not going to be a picnic and nobody is guaranteed safe, but we've done all we can to prepare and that's all we can do. Windows are boarded up, sandbags in place, everything removed from yards and stored as much as possible in our swimming pool. We're expecting to be without power for days. It's an eerie feeling knowing what's out there and headed our way... just waiting now. Be safe everyone! Praying for everyone else in FL too!

I am glad you are OK.
Hell, I got more damage in my yard alone from a big storm and a microburst in June than your whole neighborhood did. I lost 7 out of 10 trees and the damage has run way over the $4k in damages the insurance covered. I am still looking at $8k in tree cleanup yet to do. What is left of three big trees needs to come down. I can only do so much with a chainsaw at my age. I don't climb trees anymore. Getting rid of the brush is a big expense.
One of my trees took out power for over 10,000 people. Fortunately my service was off that main distribution line and my power was back up in 14 hours. It took 12 hours just to get the main line repaired where my oak tree downed the overhead lines.

Thanks Franken. We got lucky. Unfortunately going on day 5 with no power and it might not get turned on anytime soon... no generators or hotel rooms available. Luckily one of my customers let me borrow a generator today so my girlies are happy #blessed!

The best thing you can do with generators is share it with a neighbor(s). Four hours at house A, 4 at house B, four at house C, etc. That way a lot of people can keep the fridge cold.
You can also use a 12VDC powered fuel pump to pump gas 5 gallons at a time from underground storage, with the owners permission of course. You will probably be paying a premium for the gas though even with 'bring your own pump'. I have a pump rigged up for transferring gas from my 5 gallon can of premium to my scoot. It can be easily configured to drop into an underground tank. It runs off a cigarette lighter power port on my scoot or from any power port on a vehicle.
You can get by if you think 'out of the box'.
BTW, with the power off plastic doesn't work, cash is king.
