Aloha!
So, yea. The title. I assume its a cvt issue? Got the engine running pretty well, just need to get that applied to the pavement. CVT is stock with a new belt, restrictor ring was out when I got it.

Final gear ratio??Lots have a 13.55 ratio and that'll keep your speed down,,10 to 11 seems to work best...

Figured it out. Had some grease in the clutch bell. derp. Guess some came out after I did an overhaul.

Okay, clutch bell is clean, I double checked after a few more miles ride. Bike starts out decently then sort of plateaus for a bit until just over 25mph then takes off at a good clip. I can't seem to get the grunt I need to boost past cars when I need it; very slow response. The revs overall seem high, I can hit 10k RPM at just 1/3 throttle. I just swapped jets down from an #80 to a #75 because the plug was dark, wet and the exhaust smelled like gas. Engine has 8400 miles on it, and I'm guessing I need to look at new cvt parts. Any more guidance would be appreciated!

Possibly clogged exhaust, or maybe just the durations. I had a China 47mm bore and it really didn't have alot of power, and it just stopped revving around 10-11k

I do have a thicker base gasket and I eliminated the head gasket because there is plenty of clearance. I'm using the thicker base because at bdc the piston is a bit higher than the ports. It's not a perfect transition (I assume cuz I cant see it) but it is a little closer. Could this be a factor? The engine seems happy and revs up quite a bit even before WOT.

Have you done a compression test on it?

I've tried several approaches with what I have for a leakdown, they all ended up with a leak at the 'tool' I setup. I assume there are leaks after so many miles, it wasn't in the best condition when I got it free

How do the variator rollers look, what weight are they, are you getting full belt travel between the pulley sheaves??

Sounds like it's running pretty decent. I think you may be on the right track to check out the CVT. Tons and tons of CVT tuning info here!

It really does run pretty nice, and an experienced friend of mine didn't comment on it when I had him ride it around. He says it's pretty decent, but we're going to have a ride on a more wide open road tomorrow. I am just not accustomed to RPMs being there so quickly. I just feel there's slip or something that's not keeping up with the sudden rpms, it also feels like a party even when I am just trying to cruise.
190mech - Rollers have flat spots, are a little grimy, and they're 5g. The belt rides nice and high in the back resting, but when I observed the travel while the cover was off, it looks like it could go more on both ends. The belt basically levels out horizontally and stops there.

Belt should go all the way to the top of the front pulley at max speed,if not youve got to find out where the problem is and fix it,,then it'll get up to some decent speeds...

Black sharpie marker stripe from the center straight out on the vari belt face. Run it like crazy, then check how much black stripe is left.
Then measure it and share a picture of it lol

look into buying a KELI variator. the drive boss that you have in there might be a little long, which affects the closing limit of the variator. I went to the moped shop and asked if he had any used jog90 drive bosses for sale and I walked out with 3 bosses all of different lengths. drive boss length made a difference of 10 mph on the top end for me.
