This is a great idea. Some threads that go on for a while you lose who started the original post. I don't want a crown l want a tiara with lots of sparkly diamonds 😝 There is always one trouble maker to spoil things.

I'm on a couple of forums that aren't Pro Boards and I like PB's features. They also have a large enough base that they will be around for a while.

90GTVert have you thought about using a more flexible forum software such as IPB or any of the various free forum software? Having the forums be a part of a subdomain of a free forums hosting company makes it seem less professional. Aside from that, you lose all of your members and start over from scratch. Sure, the regulars are likely to follow, but there wouldn't be 9,000+ people on the member list. When people see a forum with 100 members, many aren't interested in joining. Makes the restart even slower.
Just wanted to comment on this one part, most forum software have ways to migrate boards, posts and users.

It's been years now, but there was at least talk of legal action because proboards claimed all of those things were their property. I forget exactly how it all turned out, but I believe they had to start fresh. Either way, I can't afford lawyers and that all seems like a lot of trouble when I think most of us are reasonably happy here.

Huh, so I read into it - it looks like when you use their "free" service you aren't allowed to migrate. Very very sketchy.

Anything I build or any customer I talk to (while working for or with a shop) belongs to the shop. That's kinda the way everything goes. If you want everything to be yours and under your control(not someone else's) then you gotta pay to play.
The proboards setup is easy to navigate for me and recognizable. I think all the forums I'm on are proboards. They may 'own' or at least thinknthey own the forum itself, but we all make it. If Brent left to start another I'm sure most of us would at least check it out, but he literally has THOUSANDS of posters here, so I think he's doing fine here.
