I was just getting ready to post about it. Just finished up adding the code to all themes seconds ago. Before the code was done, you may have seen the crowns for all posts. I put the bit that turns it on for only the OP in last. Here's an excerpt from a PM that FrankenMech sent me : Brent- Is there any way to have the forum mark the Original Poster's posts in a thread? When someone posts a question and starts a thread mark their post and all of their later posts in that thread only with a bold 'OP' designation, or highlight their name, or give them a big gold star, or anything? Something mostly self explanatory would be best. ...With multiple questions and answers sometimes confusing a thread it would be helpful to me to keep the OP in mind. I figure the OP is the most important person in a thread but we often go far afield.... -Eric That seemed like a really good idea to me, so I looked into it. Proboards support told me how I could make it work. I used a crown for the image instead of OP or Original Poster. So, if you browse a thread now, all of the thread creator's posts can be easily identified because you should see a crown above their mini-profile. For example, you should see the crown over gsx in any post he makes in this thread.

I should note, you may see crowns for all PMs. I believe PMs are handled a bit different. It really doesn't hurt anything there and I think it has merit for the rest of the forum so I'm not worried about that small side effect.
If there's some huge objection to crowns, it can be changed. That seemed appropriate to me for the purpose though.

If you want to hijack/take ownership this thread and make it a offical announcement for this new feature, go for it.(I still want to keep my crown. LOL) j/k

We can all be King-or-Queen for a day... That TV program was a LONG time ago. Thanks Brent!

90GTVert have you thought about using a more flexible forum software such as IPB or any of the various free forum software? Having the forums be a part of a subdomain of a free forums hosting company makes it seem less professional.

A subdomain is a place to start and works for a long time for many forums.

Sure it works and will work, but you are allowing a company to have control when it's unneeded.

I'm a member of a fairly large UK based forum, was on a free forum set up for many years when out of the blue they decided to "pull a Photobucket" and start charging a LOT for forum hosting. /Thankfully they did at least give a little warning and allowed the data base to be moved to a legit host.

Having the forums be a part of a subdomain of a free forums hosting company makes it seem less professional. I have thought about moving, but from what I saw when ScootDawg moved I'm not sure how well that would go. ScootDawg was apparently sold, which is a different issue, but there was talk of lawsuits. Aside from that, you lose all of your members and start over from scratch. Sure, the regulars are likely to follow, but there wouldn't be 9,000+ people on the member list. When people see a forum with 100 members, many aren't interested in joining. Makes the restart even slower. The way to make money seems to be to steer clear of hosted stuff like proboards, but I have 8+ years invested here and I think the forums have worked out well for the most part. Most complaints have been small things. When I started the forum, it was mostly because I was tired of ScootDawg and the lack of support for the staff and arguments. I was not really thinking that one day we'd be headed toward 10,000 members.

I like the crowns, it's interesting at least. I also like the fact that such a large forum like this is on 'free' software. It's incouraging to see small stuff get big.
