OK. 7.5g rollers = 32MPH. Hooked up a tach to it. The tach stops working when the engine revs. It works just find on a car or my other scoot, so it's something with this scoot I guess. Tried a new CDI, 33MPH... but I had a tailwind then so no real change. The brakes aren't dragging, everything's secure, etc.. etc... I'm really starting to think this thing is completely hopeless.

Wish I had the cash to just give it away and buy a 2 stroke or soemthing that isn't brown and smelly... but I don't. I rode with my father today and it cruises from 30-34MPH and will get about 40MPH downhill.
I'd love to know what you'd do to go 45 with no more money spent, cause I'd be thrilled to cruise at 40MPH with this thing.
Just a refresher, here are mods or things I've tried.
-Different jetting, needle settings, carb finallay appears to be in tune. -Different roller weights. -Stock and Naraku "high speed" variator. -New and old belt. -Swapped contra springs. -Swapped clutch springs. -Swapped the whole clutch/pulley assembly. -Swapped CDI's (both stock, but it's getting over 4,000RPM as some have said the stock rev limiter would be.) -New coil. -Iridium and standard NGKs. -72cc kit w/head. -Port matched head/intake/exhaust. -Modified muffler. -UNI filter. -Larger diameter tires. -Brakes aren't dragging. Even has new wheel bearings to keep it rolling easy. -New fuel/vacuum lines and fuel filter. Fresh gas. -Synthetic gear oil and quality engine oil.
I'm sure I'm forgetting something, but that's way too much stuff to be a 32MPH scooter.
Just to clarify, I had said it did 39 I think it was at one point. The radar sign moved. It was on a slight decline and I was tucked to get that fast. Now it's on a very slight incline and I'm riding in a normal position doing 32MPH no matter what I change... unless the wind kicks up or something.
It's very odd to me that my tach can't pick up a good signal from this thing. The spark has to still be there though, because performance isn't changing when the tach cuts out.
I guess I could shave the vari bushing and try to force it to keep the belt higher, but I really shouldn't have to sacrifice low end to get above 32MPH.

I went out and slapped in some light (4g and 5g) rollers just to be sure I covered all the bases there. With 4g rollers it is obvious that there is no 4K RPM rev limit. It revs fairly high, but topped out under 30MPH. With 5g it went 30MPH revving a little higher than the other weights I've tried. I realized that I neglected to post "after" pics of the scoot back together, so I snapped a couple.

It just gets better and better. I stuck 5.8g rollers back in the scoot and my father and I were going to take another ride tonight. I noticed the high beam had burned out when I was testing, but I told him it would be fine with the low beam for tonight. He got on and fired it up and said he didn't have any lights. I told him to lookout, thinking he prob didn't have a switch on in the right position or something. Nope, no headlights or tail light but the brake light, horn, blinkers, and other battery powered accessories were fine. I pulled the light bulb out and found that the terminals in the headlight housing had melted to the bulb and wires were disconnected. Having power and ground wires flopping around together can't be good. I don't really get any power from the stator now. Hopefully the welding of the terminals happened when I was having all the other issues, but I'm not really sure. All I know is that I used to like scooters, but I'm not so sure anymore. As you can expect with this scoot, headlights are not available. I've tried to order new housings twice before and no one has them in stock or knows if they can expect them again.

You need more rpm. Your carb could be the choke point. Those brass spindles on either side of the butterfly disturb flow through the carb exactly where it is trying to flow the fastest. I filed them down to around 2mm on either side of the butterfly. Also how is the smoothness of the intake and exhaust ports? You can do some good there with a flap wheel or emery cloth in a slot on a dowel. Maybe you could build a glasspack muffler. If you can get it turning 10 grand I think you will find that speed. Also a 4t will tolerate leaness much better than a 2t. The cooler the weather gets the better she will run.

The ports are matched and cleaned up already. Haven't messed with the carb other than tuning. It can rev, not sure how much since a tach doesn't function properly on this thing. I know it was revved high enough to make me a little nervous about it just cruising at that RPM. With light rollers it revved up fast and took off pretty quick. It felt like it was making power because even though it was slow with such light rollers it didn't want to slow down from it's top speed.
I just talked to a friend tonight who's buddy bought a scooter for $200 that just needed a new carb. He's complaining because it only goes 35-40MPH stock.
