Well, thanks to Bob (his name and username here) I have another scooter. he picked this scooter up for $20 because somoene he knows (I hesitate to call him a friend since he keeps cheating him out of money) wanted it and didn't have the $20. The guy never took possession of the scooter because he never paid Bob.
I offered Bob $50 without ever seeing the scooter, since I was looking for something cheap to get for my father. Bob talked to the guy that was supposed to buy it from him and ended up telling me I could have it for free, or in exchange for helping him work on the GY6 scooter he's ordered. I gave him 2 scooter trunks as well, hoping he could get some cash out of those. I would have paid the $50 and still helped Bob work on the scoot for nothing, but he won't take my money. Thanks again, Bob. My father and I appreciate it.
The only real problem with the deal is that the person who was supposed to buy it from Bob stole the keys to it. He may or may not give them back, but I know I can replace the ignition and seat lock if he doesn't.
It's a Sunl SL50QT-50 retro styled scooter with 1,700 somethings (I forgot if it was miles or kilometers now lol) on it. It's got a 139QMB 4 stroke 49cc engine that, to my understanding, runs but won't idle. The pics don't look bad, but it's in pretty rough shape.
The kick start was somehow ripped out of the CVT cover.
Missing a trim piece (blinker lens) in the floorboard. Incredibly rusty exhaust.
Rust and discoloration from sitting outside in a beach community. You can see that the front fairing is cracked at the bottom right.
No seat latch, and the seat is in pretty rough shape (although the pic makes the seat look pretty much O.K.).
Here are the parts included that aren't on the scoot. Bob gave me a brand new clutch assembly. It was for another scooter for the same "friend". Bob bought it for him and he never got paid for it either so he just gave it to me.
It certainly needs a lot of attention to be a nice scooter, but I can't complain for the price. Basically I have $30 into it for gas to pick it up. Of course I have no sense when it comes to scooters, so that bill will almost certainly grow and grow until I should have just bought a new scooter. lol I'm weird. I won;t put out $500 for a scoot in good shape right now, but I'll pick one up that I'll end up with a few hundred into?
I haven't even really looked it over well yet.
If anyone has suggestions for part sources for Sunl scoots, post away. It looks like nearly the same thing as a Roketa MC-16-50, so I can probably get body panels and some things through Roketa. I'd like to find a black floorboard and black seat, the rest can be painted.
