Honestly, I've started to like the SunL. It's kinda nice getting 65MPG when you had been used to 40MPG from the big 2Ts. Cheaper to operate... not that it actually saves me money... but it leaves more money to figure out how to make it go.
I dunno what makes this thing different than the Hondas. I'm sure the metallurgy is different. I'm sure manufacturing is different. I bought my first BBK for this thing with what I thought was a high volume pump, never got the pump. Asked the seller and it turns out the pumps were just stock anyway. Dunno if anyone makes 'em. I remember the Honda clones in midbikes, also made in China, would run forever. I had a high volume pump in one and enlarged the oil passage. Couldn't tell you if it really helped because the ones with and without it were so tough that they lasted for what seemed like forever. Maybe the scooter stuff is extra cheaply made compared to the midbike/trailbike engines? Maybe it's all in the design... how oil moves, how air moves, who knows?
I'm sure it would last much longer as a 50cc and probably slightly longer as a 70cc. No way I'm riding it as a 50cc. Maybe if I was much smaller. But anyway, less power, less revs, less heat, less stress...

...less speed!

Remember what T2's crank did to the cylinder? The Sunl will likely have the same metal particles imbedded into the piston, bore, cam, rockers, valve stem, guides, all sliding surfaces. If you do rebuild it look at everything verrry closely!

I was thinking about that as well. I haven't inspected anything really closely. When disassembling, I did notice that the cam lobes and bearing races and such looked good throughout the motor. No scuffing or scarring there. The cylinder is scuffed, as well as the piston skirt, but those scuffs aren't from the oil contamination. I'm having a hard time deciding what I wanna do. I will rebuild it, but for what purpose? I've made it to 50MPH and I've posted the 80cc build for all to see how long it took to kill it. Those were my 2 biggest goals with the SunL, as well as just learning about the 139QMB. I know I don't wanna go bigger on the bore. I actaully wanna ride it, so I don't need more strss on the engine to kill it even faster. I'm not even sure I wanna keep the 80cc with a crank from Kymco (about $100 compared to $50 for a Chinese replacement). A 70cc is probably gonna annoy me after what I managed with the 80cc. It took all the power I could make to let me enjoy riding the SunL much. I'd need to get a head without a huge combustion chamber to keep compression up with a 70cc. I could stick it back together with a 50/70cc setup with as few performance parts as possible and sell it. The big issues with that being it's worth next to nothing I'd imagine, and it's just getting cold here so it would be harder to sell. If I only get a couple hundred from the SunL, is it worth putting $100 or more into rebuilding it? There would be the option to completely part it out, maybe sell the frame as scrap for a few bucks. I think it's tweaked anyway. It leans to one side and has since I got it. lol I had considered dropping a 150cc in the SunL. The problem there... I think it would be a death trap without brake upgrades and even then I would prefer 12-13" wheels for the speeds a 150 could do. It would be a great swap if I had sense enough to cruise at 40MPH and just use the extra power for hills and acceleration... but I don't. Besides, the friend that keeps his 150cc Roketa in my garage told me last week that if I wanted to buy it at anytime (he's fine with keeping it) I could for $500. He wants to keep it, but he also knows I'd let im ride it or another scooter if he wanted to ride with me and that's the only time he uses it. Otherwise he's on his bike. At any rate, it would be a better choice for a 150cc scoot than this swap. I could register it and finally get my M license hopefully and be able to ride in traffic instead of beside it. It's only got 2,000 miles on it and 1,000 of those are becasue he let me ride it for a month. lol So $500 for a 150cc with 2,000 miles, 13" wheel, good brakes, more room, and able to be made legal or $300 for a 150cc engine, steel and time making a swap bracket, probably a new exhaust, and it will still be dangerous at speed. Kinda makes the 150 swap seem like a bad idea. Here's that scoot BTW...

I think it's fairly obvious what you need to do. I didn't know you had to ride a 50cc on the shoulder, does that apply to all states? In the UK the only roads with shoulders are motorways, which anything under 125cc are banned from. Even then, the shoulder is only for break downs and emergency services vehicles.

I don't beleive it applies to all states. In MD I am suppsed to ride on the shoulder when there is one. I am allowed in the regular lane of travel where it's up to 30MPH speed limit. The scooter speed limit here is 30MPH. Technically I am not allowed to go over that speed period. My house is on a main road with a 50MPH speed limit. If I got out there and did 30-40, it wouldn't take long before someone did something stupid to me. I'd rather be on the shoulder. I've been tailgated at 60+MPH in 45-50MPH zones on back roads even. It seems a lot of folks have no respect for scooters. Not sure if it would be any different in that respect with a tagged scooter. My 99cc 2T was faster than this 150, just no plates.
I think my real question here is... Am I done with the 139QMB? I dunno. I feel like I've learned a lot about them. I've covered pretty much any reasonable mod you can do to them from the valve cover to the final drive other than nitrous and that's more of a track thing. What else do I need to know? Should I build a 70cc (already have the kit) just to see how long it lasts and really know how the power compares to the 80cc (my timing was off when I originally installed the 70cc from the screwed up flywheel) and enjoy better gas mileage along the way? Should I call it done and just get it back together to sell and sell parts? I wish it were obvious to me. Thinking of scooters as a learning experience kinda screws up the whole financial and practical aspects of some questions.

It's probably worth more stripped and sold as parts than whole, if you have the time.

Probably true considering a proper rebuild would be about $150 for crank, seals, gaskets, stock head...

I think I'm leaning toward the same conclusion as you two. Not quite sure. It bugs me to trash a scoot after I finally get it figured out. If I part it out, essentially the whole frame and body is junk. The seat is discolored, the panels are messed up to some degree, the frame is mildly tweaked.... I get attached to my vehicles, even the little Turdl.

Keep it for parts and buy a 150 2T!!! There is a 180cc 2T version of my scoot, I'm tempted to do an engine swap. Then again.. :cop:

A big ole 2T would be nice, but it would also be expensive. I think I might hold off for a bit on the 150. If I thought it would allow me to ride it like a motorcycle right off, I'd go for it now. Just don't think it'll cut it without mods. I need to get T1/T2 going anyway. Tired of having projects just sitting around and if I get another scoot now that's what's gonna happen.
That 70 of yours is fast enough to get you in trouble already lshigham.
