Sounds like you are getting somewhere now. Variances in production in this area could very well account for performance differences of these motors.

I ordered the 8 pole flywheel. The belt is frayed a bit anyway and I have been meaning to get a spare. I have no spares for my 2Ts either. Flywheel, gy6 belt, minarelli belt, <$70 shipped. Now I really need to put the credit card down.
It would be cool if we just figured out why so many people suffer with 139QMB dogs. I'll believe it when I see it, but it looks good on paper.

You can install the flywheel without a key for testing,been done a bunch before,the taper is what holds it on,not the key..Torque to specs,should not slip.. Edit; If you wanna try this go ahead and add 5 more degrees advance,I'm sure this will give it even more zip!! Edit again;If ya used the flywheel to set the cam timing,wonder if it was off a tooth too?

That's what I'm thinking. Just reinstall the cam so it's lined up with your TDC mark and it should run better right?

21 degrees off, wow! I'm surprised it ever ran properly to begin with. I would think that might even mess up your valve adjustment as well, since you weren't actually at TDC when you were setting them.

The whole thing just sounds too good to be true. The specs are showing it... but I really didn't think I'd even be able to hit the speeds I have, have a mostly normal idle, and get 80MPG on something with the timing so far out. I haven't tried bolting the flywheel on without the woodruff key. Scrappydog is really fast so I should be getting the new flywheel Fri or Sat I'd guess. It would be very cool though if a lot of us with these slow scoots could bolt on a $25 flywheel and run normal. Nothing so far has worked, so I'm not getting my hopes up too much though.

I know it's a long shot but ...
Maybe a little gun powder mixed into the gas will give it more OOOMPH! . Like a 50/50 mix.

My father said the same thing after I told him what you said. He ran a dyno for years. He said he's always thought it sounded off, but he thought maybe he was mistaken and it was just something with the way a scooter engine and ignition works. I told him when you really get down to it it's just like any other 4T. So, I've got 2 very experienced folks saying the same thing to me. I knew it sounded odd with the kind of farting sound it made on WOT, but I don't think I've ever heard an engine with the timing that far out.

I know everything ive owned was a turd with the timing way retarded. Or way off in general..Ide trust the pro,s on this one

Reminds me... When I first got the 331 going in my Mustang, gas prices started going up. I was averaging 15-20MPG, depending what I was doing. I ran the timing advanced 6 degrees to make the best power on premium pump gas. Well, I got the bright idea to drop the timing back to near stock and run 87 to save money. I figured it should still be pretty quick. At the same time, I switched a set of dumped 2 chamber flowmaster mufflers out for some quieter magnaflows (got an inspection ticket). I went out with a friend with his 306 powered stang. We always had very close races, unless he missed a shift or someone spun hard etc... We lined up and he left me so bad that I swore that he sprayed me, but he didn't. I went home and set the timing back up and the flowmasters went on again as soon as I got the inspection done. lol

Im a Chevy guy and their guru's always say a high initial time(20) and 36-42 total.I set up many cars this way(all brands) and can say thats the ticket for 4strokes!! $5 is all I have cause uncle sam raped me on the 15th!!

I ran my car with 20 degrees (locked out, so it never advanced) when I first installed the turbo. It would spin tires from 50MPH when I set it up rough and just felt nasty in general eve though it was way too rich because I couldn't change stuff around enough to get the computer liking the new injectors. I got it back with the timing backed off, but more proper air/fuel ratios. It would only leave black marks from about 30MPH rolling then and just didn't feel the same. Allegedly my car made 35-40RWHP more after the tune, but no pre-tune dyno sheets could be provided and it felt a good bit faster pre-tune. I think timing was a good part of that. That's OK, I think I'm gonna start working toward getting her straight soon and tuning it myself with the help of a new ECU. I can get the ECU, laptop, and extra wideband for the ECU's input for about the same price as a rollback each way to the dyno and the tune... and I can tune it later if I change anything this way and do datalogging on the laptop so I know what's really happening and can show it to other folks if necessary to get it dialed in. I need to get those tires spinnin' at highway speeds again! THen I need to figure out how to make the scooter spin it's tire from a 50MPH roll! lol Sorry, I got way OT. Just had the car on my mind lately.
