Can you advise? My 2005 49cc Vino Classic generally runs fine, except if I don't use it for a couple of weeks, and then start it up, it sputters a bit, smokes upon acceleration, runs slightly coughingly while smoking for a few blocks, then clears and runs normally. I might also mention that lately my mileage has gone down. I used to get 35 kms per litre, but lately only getting around 25 kms per litre. Any suggestions on what might be wrong? Thanks in advance.

Oil from the oil tank is siphoning through the oil pump into the carb when the scooter is at rest. There is a very small white check valve in the oil line between the pump and the carb. You may be able to clean it out or you may need a new one. Pay attention to its direction when you work with it. It is a common problem on the 2T Vino.

Your increased fuel consumption could be some of that excess oil getting to your air filter element. Might be time to clean it.

I will check. Sorry to be a noob... But I'm not afraid to check my air filter etc. How do I clean it if it is dirty?

Clean it with detergent and water, dry it well, saturate it with some 2T oil then squeeze all of the oil you possibly can out of it. I usually wrap it in paper towels for the final squeeze.

If you have any on hand chainsaw bar oil is awesome for air filters too, has a stickiness to it.

Thanks everyone. Regarding the air filter, I unscrewed it enough to feel inside and it is quite wet with oil so definitely later this week I will take off the footrest and plastic parts and check it out, and the valve also.

just a heads up-the 2005 vino is just the vino not the "classic". classic is a 4 stroke and parts may be different than your "vino" . at least here in the US. The "classic" designation started in 2006. motorscooterguide.net/Yamaha/Vino50/Vino50.htmlboth bikes are excellent rides. welcome to the forum.

Thanks for the correction. Great link! I'll share my story... I had imagined riding a scooter since high school but it was not until my 50s that on our work messageboard, someone was posting this one for sale, brand new, as he had won it in a contest but living in the country and forced to travel in on highways, he could not use it. To my dismay, it would not go above a slow cruise (40 kph) but after searching the internet, I discovered the restraining washer could be removed. Surprised that my local dealer was not aware, I printed the pics and gave them the instructions. I happily ride up to around 70 kph, and legally I can go on all highways at 80 kph or less. Love my vino!

Love my vino! That is an awesome story! Scooters are a BLAST no matter how old or young you are. I love my Vino, but I am just to big to ride it comfortably. But I have other scoots that fit me better.Lol!

My Venice 2t does the same thing after sitting for any length of time, If you clean the little valve as stated, it will most likely help Ive just learned to deal with it running rich for the first few minuets after initial start up, as its never caused me any long term problems.
