Soo I've been doing my research on mopeds/scooters recently because I might buy one very soon and I was just wondering if anyone could give me some good tips on what to look for when I go out and buy a USED moped/scooter. Maybe things that would be dealbreakers idk I just need some help

As tortoise said. What are you wanting your scooter to do for you?

For transport, i'd consider a good 50cc 4 stroke. You may want to consider a big bore kit, you'll have more power to keep up with traffic. Lots to read through in this forum

Cool thanks for the advice any brands in particular I should look out for? For scooters and A big bore kit, and just good overall brands for scooter parts or things of that nature

Ideally, you'd want to find something like a Honda, Yamaha, Piaggio, Vespa, Aprilia. The problem may be the $400-500 budget for those. Eventually something will come along that's a great deal, but the big name scoots that aren't beat tend to go for considerably more. Kymco is a popular Taiwan brand with better quality than Chinese scooters and better dealer support, without price tags as large as the European and Japanese scoots. Chinese scoots can work, and will fit your purchase budget more easily, but you have to be prepared for issues with them. When budget and getting from A to B are primary concerns, it's hard to recommend them over higher quality scooters unless you are mechanically experienced and willing to work on them. A trip or two to a mechanic can quickly ruin a budget. Of course you could get a dud of a Honda or Vespa too. You have to choose carefully when buying used and always take some risk.
