I got the starter motor today, 2 days early. It was as advertised and a perfect fit. Got it installed and it cranked right over faster than I had ever heard before. This motor may have been dead for a while. Got the plastics on and took it for a ride. I stayed close so it couldn't fail me. The engine got warm and the fan came on as it should. The idle was hanging again and I found the vacuum hose wasn't as tight as it could be. I went to a 1/4" hose and all was good. Took it for a longer ride, still no farther than I wanted to walk just big loops. I'm still skeptical of it but I'll give a chance. I'll let it sit a few days and see where it is.
The 11gr sliders are a big improvement, it has very nice throttle response, no revving it up to get it to move. The 16" wheels make those pothole patches no problem. The forks are moving very nicely now as well. I just need a top box so it can be a grocery getter.

It's been a while for this scooter, I rode it last summer and fall and then it sat. I went to start it in the spring and the battery was dead. Charged one I had sitting in and got nothing. Traced everything down and it pointed to the new Chinese import aftermarket starter. Pulled it and it was dead. I opened it and the commutator ring was fried. I decided to splurge and bought the Italian OEM starter and put it on and it started right up. I rode it for a few days and filled the tank. Yesterday riding home from work it died, it would start then die. Fortunately it died at the top of a hill and I just coasted home. I parked it to look at if I ever get a day off. These scooters have a bizarre fuel line run that could be the problem but I suspect that it's the rubber fuel over flow ring isn't on right and is blocking the vent on the tank. I'll know when I look at it.

Pulled the cap today and the rubber seal in it was buggered a little. I pulled it completely and it started right up. I took it for a ride and all seemed good, I'll try leaving it out in the sun so it gets hot and try it again.

Did a longer ride today to go get sushi and to just ride. My guess is the vent on the gas cap. One thing about this scoot is it confuses bikers, they mostly give me the wave.

So in my quest to get all of the scooters on the road I pulled the Scarabeo out. I had charged it with a Battery Tender and the battery was good. I went to start it, turned the key and nothing. Usually all of the lights come on and of course the brake lights work. I tested all of the fuses and they were good. I tested the Ignition switch and it was good. Checked all of the connectors and they were good. Battery is good at 12.56V. I tested the kill switch and it was good. There is a wire from the ignition switch that runs to the voltage regulator. Could the voltage regulator be bad? here is a picture of that wire and the full diagram, 4 is the voltage regulator:

I'm so jealous of people that have ACTUAL diagrams/schematics for there scooters .

18 is the ignition Key switch and it tests good.
Edit: Thank you 190mech you just gave me the path that I need to check to see where the voltage is stopping. I've also been thinking that maybe cleaning up the connectors might do it. It worked when I parked it 4 months ago and nothing now. What could have happened, corrosion. It does Sid in an unheated garage over a concrete floor. Maybe 17years of slow corrosion hit that tipping point. I'll try new fuses that are clean and shiny and clean up the fuse holders. Let me chase the volts and do some cleaning and I'll report back what I find.

Could just b oxidation in the fuse box? (my experience) Would have immediately suspected break switch. Hm? Have you checked that starter relay? We had to replace it.

I shorted across it and nothing. I will check that there is power there like there should be.

Found the problem, dead battery. It had the voltage but not the ass. I put the meter across the terminals turned the key and nothing. Oh well I should have started there, it would have shown a short. I put an old battery from the GTS in and it started up. I have a new one on order but I should make it down for an inspection and get tags on it.

Like my Mom used to say "does it have gas in it?",,ARRG! the simple stuff gets overlooked!

Goodness, always ends up being the simplest thing. That must have been the old battery.

With sometime on my hands I decided to put the front tire back on facing the correct way. Michelin could do a much clearer job labeling the rotation on their tires. So once again I could not get the bead to break so I asked Mr. Google what to do and saw a guy lower the front hub of his car down onto the bead lacking a car on a jack stand with out the wheel on it I used what I had: It worked like a champ. the rest was a piece of cake. The scoot does handle a little better with the tread rotating the correct way.

So this scoot has a new gremlin. Its happened 3 times not. I turn it on and press the start button and it all goes out. I pull fuses and all good and then try again and its back and starts. Today the fuse pull didn't help so I dug deeper. If I disconnect the connector fro the switch to the relay all is good. When I disconnect the wire to the starter from the relay all is good. If I short across the relay it goes out. I was on my way to get it inspected and it started so I'll have to see if the cable to the starter is bad. This involves pulling lots of plastics coming off so It can wait for another day.
Oh and it did pass inspection.
