Bad ground connection can cause everything to go blank when the load of the starter is applied.

captincvmn you are a genius and I'm an idiot. So I started with the battery looking for a bad ground and low and behold I found it. The ground was not just loose but barely attached. Not sure how I missed that. I had decided a while ago that I wanted to put an analog tach on this scoot. I pulled out the one I've had for a while and realized there were no intstructions and 5 wires. The red and black were obvious but which one went to the coil wire was a mystery. I had 3 choices and none of them worked so I put it back together and cleaned it up and put the top box back on it. Charged up the battery and got it ready for a Thanksgiving day solo ride.

I’m glad it worked out. Red and black might not be the power wires. Should be but might not be. I know on my scooter all the grounds are a green color.
