Project Stealth... well kind of...

Ok im going to keep the problems\issues that arise with this "project" to this thread... that way If\When i have the issues i expect to have i can just post it here and not fill up Brents awesome boards. :sos:


Alright here is what we are doing - Feel free to tell me if its a bad idea or express frustration that what i am doing is a bad idea. wont take it personally:

I am souping up my wifes scooter... she doesnt know it and anytime i tell her im going to do it... well she basicly throws things at me But this is just too much fun to pass up!

I am installing a 100cc kit that i got from scrappy dog (83cc real) - i got such a crazy deal on it... well even if the piston does shatter in 100 miles... it will be worth it for the experience. ($65 shipped - WOW)... From what i read 100 miles may be all i get lol - so when some of you WI peeps see in the newspaper "wife kills spouse over scooter" you now know why.

So here is my expected parts run down (* next to parts i already have)

1)100cc kit (ordered)
2)CVK Main Jet Kit 80-90 (ordered)
3)New rollers - Im thinking i will need 10-13g weights... dont want this thing reving too high (hear that causes problems with this kit).
4)I am going to need a new belt - pretty sure that if this isnt the stock one on there; that whoever put it on bought the cheapest one they could find (i mean i bargain shop, but this thing looks weak!)

im going to have 1 day well shes at work to put this thing together and get it running correctly so all parts must be ordered ahead of time and i better know what im doing before i get there.

I changed the oil tonight (never done it before and wasnt sure when the last time it had been done).

Oil level was about half way up the stick and considering we only put like 200 miles on this thing im hoping that the last guy either didnt change the oil or didnt know it needed to be on its stand when you did it.

Oil smelled pretty bad of gas - is that normal for these engines? seemed pretty clean though. Nothing was in the filter.

Does that kit require machining on the crankcase? If it does, are you set up for that? This might put a crimp in your time limit.

10 - 13 g. rollers sound heavy to me. I'm thinking more along the line of 8 or 9. Too heavy of weights will kill you on hills without stiffening up the contrast spring. What's in it now? A couple of grams above that ought to hold it down very well.

Bando belts are supposed to be very good.

Should just be a bolt on. May need a new valve head, but everything I've read says I should be good without anything major.

Some scoots that will bolt right on and some will need the cases machined. You can do it with a dremel or drill with burrs if you are careful. If you have to do something like that and don't split the case, stuff the crankcase with rags prior to any work on it to try and keep shavings out. I'd flush it out before reassembly as well.

I agree with Reg. 10-13g sounds heavy. I was using 4.5g, but I kept the RPM high. I think 8g would be enough.

Should I be worried about gas in oil?

If it's not thinning out the oil and your oil level isn't rising, it will probably be OK. Check it fairly often for a bit and see if you still have issues after the last oil change.

A cam will work to make more power at higher revs... but since you want to keep the revs down I'd just stay stock and save a little cash.

Should i also be planing on upgrading the head? Was just looking around and i havnt read anywhere that you needed too, but i can get one that fits for 50 bucks and if thats a good idea to do.. well ill do it.

I couldn't keep the compression low enough to not have problems without either working over a stock head's combustion chamber for more volume or using something aftermarket. I also had a shop that installs a lot of 50mm kits tell me that they had engine failures often until they started installing matched heads with ever BBK to keep compression and heat lower.

Yeah, just get something that matches your bore size. I'd assume that by matching the bore size you'd be more likely to get the valves lined up with the reliefs. May not be so.

ok 90cc head purchased (fingers crossed!) hope it works!

Now - Something i noticed taking it out for a spin tonight after adjusting the kickstart... the headlights on these things SUCK - im going to do some research see what i can do to fix these - change them to halogens or something.

Any Ideas?! Shout'em out!
