Bought a new 2018 Genuine Buddy 50 scooter about 2 1/2 weeks ago, and though I'm not required to have insurance, where I live, for 49cc scooter use, I decided to obtain some.
I chose first to inquire of USAA since I've household and auto coverage with them, but they forwarded my inquiry to an affiliate, Progressive, because USAA doesn't provide coverage for "off road vehicles" (vehicles over 49cc I guess are "on road vehicles", not to be confused with rock band roadies. Strange, because I'm not going to drive/ride my Buddy 50 "off road" unless I end up in some ditch (G'd forbid!).
After obtaining the Progressive quote, I called another USAA affiliate, "Foremost Insurance", which is partnered with Farmers Insurance. Foremost has good ratings (A.M. Best and Standard & Poor), but I was greeted with a machine which first asked "Are you over 50 years of age?" I thought that strange, but I answered "Yes", upon which the speaking machine told me about a free LifeLock or Caller Alert or something. I declined that, hoping next to hear from a human, but no, just more BS, so I hung up. Besides which, Foremost doesn't even have a website for claims or anything else. Hey! It's 2018! Wake up, Foremost!
Progressive, from my asking, had sent their quote to me via email, for my record, while I was quote-shopping. So I opened up the email from them and accepted their offer.
Hopefully I'll never have to use the coverage, but it's comforting to know that I have it.
It's also comforting that I still have hair on my head, but that's a follicle story.

I started getting quotes for a new policy last week, cheapest has been Nationwide with my AMA discount at $115 a year for FULL coverage with a $500 deductible. Stays under $200 a year with a $100 deductible. I'll have a better policy on my scoot than my Jeep.

That's not too bad a price. Do you get a no claims discount if you don't have an accident? We get an extra 10% of for every year claim free. Up to a maximum of 65%. For comparison I pay £77 for my scooter insurance in The U.K.

Well mike at least you have a 2 year warranty and 2 years roadside on that scooter. Cant say if you'll need it as i have the 2017 roughhouse (only real difference is the roughouse has a LC Cvt and 12" tires) and i have yet turn a wrench on it other then a spark plug and adding 2T oil to the oil reservoir.
See that D ring next to the kick stand? for now use it to lock it up. (shotgun sold separately)

I just switched all of my insurance a few weeks ago (Home, auto, scoot), I’ll be saving about $900 year going to progressive. Full coverage with towing on 2 bikes is $95 annual here in PA.

I not long ago bought a 15yr old standard Chinese scooter here in U.K. and cannot insure it so far tried many online and phoned others as well. It has registration document and mot and done 5000km in the past so must have been insured before. Oh well keep trying 😣

I just tried again for insurance and found someone willing to do it for £350 on a 50cc. Don't think I will go for that one. My last policy which is still current for 4 bikes and scooters was only £170 approx. 😊

Progressive charged me $75 a year for liability only on a 50cc scoot last year and and three times that for liability only on the 250cc, needless to say they'll be losing our auto to Nationwide shortly as well.

Our postcode area is very cheap compared to other though.
