I'm 31. When I was in school there were some imports. By the time I was 20 or so the import scene was really catching on. The thing is, if you grew up doing the stuff I did, you'd see why I dislike imports. The dummies around here that drove them when I was out a lot did nothing but talk and then when you wanted to race they didn't. All of the Mustang, F-Body, muscle, folks I knew would meet up and we'd go race while the imports sat in a McDonald's lot and BS'ed about racing. Complete crap scene IMO. When we could get imports to race us, well... race wasn't really the right word most of the time. More like when we could get an import to follow us and make sure our taillights still worked. Here's and old vid from a friend in a red Fox with a 306 and I going 1hr30 each way to an import show to try and find something worth racing. Turns out nobody but other Mustangs really wanted to play. Just FYI I know better than to think I could keep up with the bikes in the beginning, I just never cared. Put a top fueler beside me and I'll try to get him to run. That's the stupid attitude I've always had that got me in a lot of trouble and exactly why I never understood the local import crowd being so interested in talking about their rides instead of racing them. www.myspace.com/video/satanstang/oc-import-show-june-2005/13953383 We tried hanging out with the street racers in imports that started up years ago, but it was about the same. They'd spend 2 hours figuring out who got how many cars or whatever and then 20 seconds racing. Stupid. Related story : Some kid had an Acura Integra with a 2 tone paint job and "4U2NV" painted on it. Loud exhaust, wheels, and I dunno what else. He would ride by and rev it up at me or the dude in the red stang from above all of the time, but if we saw him going the same direction as us he would never race. He'd look away when you were beside him or turn off or whatever. Then the kid goes and tells people that no one around here will race him. He can't find a good race and everyone's scared. My friend sees the car in a burger joint so he pulls in. Goes in and asks who owns the car. Someone points the guy out. He goes over and says so I hear you can't find a race. I've got one for you right there (points to his car). I'll wait outside for you to finish your meal, take your time. The guy then says he has nothing for that car and doesn't wanna race. My friend said yeah, I know and walked out. There are definitely fast imports out there, but the majority of them around me ruin their reputation.

17 ?? Let me buy ya a beer!!! Seems you have the battle scars of us old fogies (just jokin) I like some of the stuff going on with rally cars. If I ever get another 4 banger it would half to be an Imprezza or lancer. Thats just me though. I like the off road/ rally race stuff. All I need is my scoot, this Cougar(project) and, the Saturn wagon I hate to drive. BTW at 30 something I guess my midlife crisis purchase is coming soon. I wanna few new scoots in the garage Maybe a new GTO!!!!! he does have some battle scars, a broken leg and a few others...

yeah the all show and no go crowd you do get some of that in the nuscle car scene but even a trailer queen muscle car has some go i thought it was funny when the ricers would want to come up and race my firebird all the time they would get a big kick of beating me off the line but the look on there face as i blew by them was always worth it
but the bigest joke was another muscle car i didnt want to run it was too busy he finaly pulled into a lot with me and started talking some shit (mind you my firebird isnt pretty and there aint no chrome under the hood) i said i dont race cars that are all show and no go if you had noticed i was the chasier at the cstore you got gas at a little bit ago you had your hood open to check the oil or show of your chrome and that big ass scoop you have on your hood is just for show you have no air box
he didnt undersatnd till i opened the hood of my firebird and he saw the pan to seal the airfilter to the hood and how the l72 scoop was needed as the airfilter was up in the scoop

Those are some awesome videos I have to say. My neighbor has a 76 mustang cobra with the 302 in it. I will see if I can get some pictures of it. He completely restored it from a pile a junk.

I wanna few new scoots in the garage Maybe a new GTO!!!!! Hey, Bong. Back in the late seventies/early eighties I had a series of Datsun 510s(71-72s) that I had set up for rally. Turbo 1.6 mtr & later a +0.060 hicomp. mtr. It was a crude turbo setup with a right foot wastegate but it had a killer third gear on midspeed corners. I topped 100 mph on gravel a couple of times but usually saw fit to hold it to eighty or so on open-to-the-public Weyerhauser roads. I wore out a come-a-long getting myself out of mishaps but that's how ya learn timing and the limits and feel for the car. Anyway, two of em didn't make it :dunno: . I still gotta roll cage and turbo in the attic.
