Here in eastern PA it’s been colder then usual, also have had a decent amount of snow already this season. When you work outside these temps have a way of getting under your skin.

I got snowed in and couldnt make it to work due to the slick roads,us South Carolina folk just cant function when that flakey stuff starts falling! Yeah, 2" of ice and snow shut this town down pretty much. It melted today everywhere the sun was shining, but anything in the shade is still absolutely treacherous. This is the view from Scootopia this evening.

Our bathroom sink drain froze up about a week ago now. The bathroom is an add-on addition to the existing house and it's cold underneath that floor. With the forecast as it is, I don't expect it to have a chance to thaw for a month. For shaving, I carry a bowl of hot water in there. We brush our teeth in the kitchen sink.
When the temp gets into the single digits Fahrenheit I need to run just a little bit of cold water in the shower in order to keep that supply from freezing. I've been running that cold water for at least a week now. We've been in this house 25 years now. I've never had to run it that long before.
Luckily, we only have 1 pipe that freezes. It's the drain for the washer that is in an outside wall. I think it freezes at a bend where I assume it must go down in size. I cooked noodles for mac and cheese a couple of days ago and everyone in the house needed to do laundry, so I poured the leftover near boiling water from the noodles down the drain thinking I'd save energy using that. Sorta worked. It moved about 3/4" after I filled it to the top. Grabbed a long piece of fuel hose and siphoned out that water after it felt cool and dumped in more boiling water. That cleared it and the household did every bit of laundry around that day/night so we won't have to worry about it again right away.

Last night i left work early as my wife's alternator died on her trailblazer on her way home from work. The air temp was -17F. Needless to say she was a bit chilly when i arrived. Its natural habit for us to make sure our gas tanks don't get below half in case we do get stuck on the side of the road we can stay warm. However the engine can barely run off battery alone, and these batteries don't give much power when its this cold.
For you folks stuck in this canadian air conditioning, make sure you have a roadside winter kit.

I had to take trash in the truck so I grabbed the GoPros to take everyone else along since we were talking about the snow. I was considering taking one of the scooters out today, till I saw how crappy the roads actually are. I guess they are having trouble keeping some clear because of the winds.

I feel sorry for the people who live in areas that aren't equipped to deal with the cold and snow. I can't imagine what it would be like to be trapped in your car for hours or longer because there's no plows or salt to keep the roads open. Then there's the houses that are under insulated or uninsulated and dealing with frozen pipes, ect. With that being said, we haven't had a low temperature that was 0 or above since December 25th where I live. I'll take the "cold" that the south is seeing right now any day of the week. Honestly, I have no idea why I stay living where I do. Granted, the temps we've had for a while are below normal, but are not abnormal for this area. These are the observed temps since 12/25: Date Low High (F) 12/25 -18 8 12/26 -22 -5 12/27 -23 0 12/28 -23 4 12/29 -16 4 12/30 -14 4 12/31 -19 -2 1/1 -15 3 1/2 -6 12 1/3 -3 9 1/4 -1 5 1/5 -2 3 1/6 -21 9

@90gtvert when your video showed up on my feed I thought you took 2 wheels out. I’ve logged just under 400 miles on my van in these winds today, I couldn’t imagine being on 2 wheels.

I'd prob try it, because I'm just not terribly bright sometimes, but even the main roads have snow blowing across them. Traffic is doing 60 in a 50 with all of this crap blowing around. I'm dumb for fun, but some of these drivers seem to be making it a lifestyle.

I gave up electric starting the scooter in this crap, even with a new battery, starter, and heavy duty starter and ground cables, I've just resigned myself to kick starting first thing in the morning. With the 15-w40 ,and cold belts and a cold carb, the electric can't turn it fast enough, starts fine when warmed up.

Brent! Your video reminded me of no place more than, say, Saginaw, Bay City and getting into the thumb of Michigan. And it's not that Maryland's eastern shore can never look like that. But I'm sure it's kinda rare.
I worked third shift last night. It got down to -12 F. It was downright painful. I'll often do some outdoor work pretty much on a voluntary basis. It's not really required of me. But I do it because I want to get outside. But not last night.
Now the air is getting so dry that I'll turn on the kitchen faucet and then, I kid you not, get a static electric shock from the stream of water when I reach down to see if it's hot. I've got some water boiling on the stove right now in order to get some humidity in the air.
While getting some sleep during the day I had a dream of riding my scooter. My gas gauge was frozen and not working. I thought to myself, "I filled the tank just before the deep freeze, right? Yes, I did. I'm okay and the gauge will thaw".
And now I've really got 'the fever'. I want to ride that scooter.
The deep freeze is ending as we speak. It's supposed to be about 20 deg F at dawn. We are supposed to get some snow and even freezing rain tomorrow. But it looks like the morning will be clear.
And my scoot will start in 20 deg weather. I'm gonna do a bit of riding in the morning.
That'll be cool.
