1991 Volvo 740
Preparing it for a 10000+ Mi roadtrip to the heart of siberia (russia) my buddy and me are attempting. Due sept 14.
Already did a full tune up including checking everything and eventually replacing timing belt, waterpump, tires, pads, fluids, O2 sensor.
Put fully electric leather seats from a 95' 960 in. It needs an MOT or in Dutch, APK (general periodical check up).
Next is to clean the whole interior and do small work to improve driving comfort like custom armrests, cruise control and an invertor to charge laptops.

My wife leases a Mini Cooper Clubman and has to drive an hour to the dealership to change the oil. I'm like, no prob, I can do it in a cinch. Yeah right. Forgot how frustrated I get with Minis. Went to the auto store to get oil and filter, but it doesn't use a regular screw-on filter we all know and love. It uses the cylindrical insert type, and the store did not have anything that would fit. Strike one. Well screw it, the oil is waaay overdue and really needs to be changed. Mini also decided to get rid of the dip stick we all know and love - you apparently have to use the console to check oil level. Damned if I could figure that one out. I'm an engineer and understand technical/mechanical stuff very well, who the hell designed this POS setup?! Strike 2. The owner's manual doesn't tell you how much oil it takes. So now google gets involved, and I read 4.3 quarts. Well google is gospel right?? 4.3 seems about right anyway. I guestimated ~0.7 quart leftover from a 5-quart jug. I will never hold a wrench to that car again. The only good thing I can say about it is has manual transmission, otherwise a bunch of fru fru distracting B.S. No offense to anyone, to each his own. Can't even do a proper oil change in the damn thing. ( <== that's called "venting" )

And a lot of cars now don't even have a drain plug. Special tool needed to suck the oil out. It does seem to be making it complicated just for the hell of it. Someone I know has a Kawasaki ZX12R, that's even worse. You have to remove the engine to replace the plugs. It's just crazy.

Giving my Jeep an altitude adjustment....took off inner-fenders, shocks, track-bar, and swaybar endlinks. A few friends are coming over to help pull the springs and install the new ones tonight.

Been wrenching on an 03 gran prix. Starter, battery, grounds, power lead... ignition switch. 2 days later the exhaust tapped out of the game right by the o2 sensor. And they wondered why it drove like hell trying to get it home. P.s. hate being the work bus while their car is down... not that i dont work 72 hours a week already plus try to be a shadetree mechanic for my poverty level friends...

It arrived ! ! Took about 2 hours to install the new diff on the S. And damn, feels like I'm gonna be sore tomorrow. Lots of heavy pushing and pulling to get the splines and everything all back in, lots of torquing. This will be the cleanest and prettiest that it will ever be. 300 mile break-in, which really sucks after not having driven it for 3 months. Prob drive it into work tomorrow instead of the scoot since it's supposed to be a crisp morning, as in 40F. Out of the delivery box Preppin on the bench Installed

Been wrenching on nothing really as opposed to what i was expecting. I am in the middle of my 15000+ km (10000+ mi) roadtrip and have just crossed the 9000km mark here in Astana Kazachstan. Over this 9000km period the volvo used only 0.5L of engine oil...thats it! Not bad for a 250k mi engine. No breakdowns, no flat tires and no accidents (knocks off on wood).
Next stop, either crossing the caspian sea to Azerbedjan and Georgia or going around it below through Turkmenistan and Iran.

Had one breakdown in Georgia....a teeny tiny nail in the right rear tire. Took more time to straighten the crooked jack than to swap the wheel. In 15mns we were back on track. Did 17.000kms (10.500mi) btw. Drank 1L of engine oil and 0.5L coolant due to a slightly leaking heater core. All thanks to our good ol' Volvo 740 tank named Boris!
