Hey guys, I've been poking around this forum for the past year, but finally decided to make an account! Just recieved my new scooty today so i figured it was as good a time as any to make a first real post. And here it is! A taotao racer50. Did a basic PDI when i unpacked it. Tightened the suspension up, installed new new fuel lines, new motor and gear oil, ngk copper plug, and gave all the plastics a once over to make sure they wouldnt rattle. Ill be starting a build thread once i start recieving parts. Planning on a 47mm bbk with all the supporting mods. Thanks for looking guys, and thanks 90GTVERT for all the amazing videos and diys you've offered up for the public. Wouldn't be here without your help.

That's a pretty cool looking bike. The pics make me wish they would do one with a long long case engine. Put it farther forward in the frame and use the 16" wheel those can support. I'll be interested to see if you ever have trouble with the law with that. Different in all areas, but it looks so much like a motorcycle that it may trick some officers into pulling you over. Hope not, but let us know if you ever have any issues.

I didnt know there were 3 different size cases for the gy6 engine, thats pretty cool. This bike has the long case, so a 12" rear rim and 17" up front. Little silly looking if you look close.
I actually had the same thought! It is the same seat height and wheelbase as a 250 Ninja, so ill be getting some looks. Hopefully the vanity plate im applying for will help.

Ive put about 15 miles on it just exploring some backroads, cant take it too far cause it doesnt have plates yet!
But so far so good, im doing the motoman style break in. So far top speed on flat is about 32 @ 8k on the dash. Havent gps'd it yet.
If anybody has questions feel free to ask. There is very little info on these bikes online.

40 miles in, crankcase oil change. Some 10-30 dino oil from the walmarket.
Cold weather is messing up my afr.. bogging like mad at WOT. Hope my carb and jets show up soon.
And i am definitely in need of cvt tuning, im a big boy at 260 and im getting stuck half way up steep hills. Going to try stiffer springs before roller weights.
Also, just sent out rego paperwork to VT, should have a plate next week. Then i can get back in the scoot tag!

Sooo i ordered a 47mm bbk but the vendor emailed me and said they were out, and offered a 50mm kit instead.. why not?!
What can i do to make sure my scooty doesnt give up the ghost in 1k miles? Ease into the throttle and minimal wot, anything else?

Some people use heavier rollers or sliders to sort of de-tune it a bit by keeping RPM a little lower.

Nice looking scoot, I saw those when I picked up my Thunder 50. I thought they looked good but were probably too heavy with a G.W. of 277; 77 more than my Thunder... which I still think is heavy.
go speed racer...

I was thinking of converting to a pitbike swingarm, and rebuild a cr85 engine to swap in, cause ive got both of those things! Ideally id throw something 2stroke 200cc+ but not a ton of options in my price range.

The 232 would be great, buuuut its a little too rich for my blood. Someday..
My rough measurements tell me the cr85 will fit in the empty spot where the engine would normally go on a big boy bike. Biggest issue is getting electronics hooked up, as the pitbike it came off of didnt have a lighting coil or anything to run headlights. Maybe a big battery and charge it over night + whatever small charge i can get off the stator.

It doesnt feel so heavy when youre riding it, but i had a hell of a time with pdi and getting it in my apartment. no center stand and the bike weighs more than me hah
