I got laid off yesterday from a manufacturing job making decent wages, but working 60 hour weeks left me no time to enjoy my scooter wrenching.
But the blessing lies in the whim decision to stop into a shop that specializes in just cylinder head remanufacturing/machining. I have a load of experience manufacturing and some machining/welding, but i've always had a knack for fixing most anything, so rebuilding and remachining heads would be the awesomest fit for me.
I had an on-the-spot interview and hope to hear back from them later today. Wish me luck (o'the'irish)!

Best of luck to you! And it certainly does sound like a situation that just kinda fell together just right, doesn't it?
You'll know better than I how many hours/week you need. But I'll go ahead and hope you get about 30. Hopefully that'll be enough that you're not very worried about finances, yet you'll still have time to look after your home and have some sort of life without running out of time and being exhausted.

Sometimes it can be the best thing that ever happened to you... Maybe not at first, you'll have a crummy time until you find another gig, but when you do land that gig hopefully you'll look back and wonder why you stuck around your old job for so long. Good luck.

Update, i did find new employment, another place i'd been trying to get into for years actually. Huuuuge pay increase, second shift, great benefits, and its local, i can -walk- to work! But i'll be scootin just because i can! And plenty of time to work on my scoots now too!!!
