Update on my belt from Autotech: I had my cover off yesterday for a cleaning and inspection and noticed that my belt had a tear in it . Its not all the way through, the back of the belt tore about half inch long, it was a very thin peice of the belt so i cut it off before it tore more off. I also used some rubber cement to try and slow down the tear. Autotech sells good stuff for the money spent, im not sure if the belt was a lemon or if they are just crappy belts?

Dayco or Gates are probably the among the highest quality you can buy. I wouldn't try to skimp on a tranny belt. That's a part that could cause you a lot of grief at an inopportune time.

I use the plain old Bando belts with good results so far. I've got over 2,000 miles of abuse on my current belt with no issues.

I use the plain old Bando belts with good results so far. I've got over 2,000 miles of abuse on my current belt with no issues. I shouldn't have opened my mouth. My clutch started slipping bad last night, making me take off like a 49cc having cars on my ass. My clutch shoes and bell are glazed again, so I took care of that. While I was in there I decided to measure and inspect the belt. The service limit is 16mm and mine is down to 15.6mm. I woulda still kept it for a week or two to get a few hundred more miles out of it but I found that it had a tear and frayed steel belts as well as kind of a glazing on it's edges. I have 2,165 miles on my bike speedometer and probably 3,000 miles total. I still don't think that's horrible considering I've had problems with belt slip with this engine. I might try a Gates for comparison if I can find one.

I called a local auto parts dealer that I know pretty well and asked him if he were aware of any quality differences in Gates or Dayco. He said that they were of equal quality as far as his 40 year experiences in automotive belts or hoses at least are concerned.

I don't know how easy these are to find in the U.S. But if they are OEM manufacturers for the belt on my scooter @ 7000 miles they must be pretty good belts. I understand they use Aramid fibers in their construction. www.scooterwest.com/item_detail/GT-200-Belt-By-DAYCO/2016/I realize this belt is not for your application.

MRP carries the 798 17 28 Gates PL. That's +10mm in length from my stock (788 17 28) belt. It's about $50 shipped.

Thats kinda steep for a belt... I do want to try a longer one though. I put the 788 on there like i think it was supposed to to begin with, now i want to try a bigger one. Mine i starting to tear and i have the room for a bigger one.

That would be so nice if they did. I have thought about looking myself at the local parts stores. The one i bought from autotech says automotive belt right on it.
