Just curious what size belts others are running. Look for info from people running 1E40QMB Short Case. THanks.

What would a 788 18 28 belt do? Wouldn't I gain a little top end?

I have a Gates 788 18.1 28 and I don't like it. Too wide, which kills your take off. I dunno that you'd gain any speed, because it needs to be narrow enough to travel all the way into the rear pulley at speed. All I noticed was a decrease in acceleration. I'd stick with the 788 17 28 Bando or try something slightly longer if anything. I have a 792 Gates here for a Malagutti and it is shorter than the 788.

When I read the OP's thoughts on the 788 18 28 I was hoping that somebody would shed some light on just what each of those numbers means. I can't seem to find anything definitve on what and where the measurements are taken from. A diagram would help if possible too.

I really which you could get a name brand belt for these not a chinese belt. I just seen that Gates is now chinese too. Why can't I get a CRP German belt like I use on my VWs. Maybe I will get a Yamaha belt like I use on my sleds. Just not really ready to trust a chinese made belt on a commuter.

If it helps any, I tried Bando vs Gates vs no name Chinese belts and the Bando easily held up the best. I think the Gates are OK, but wouldn't go with the wider belt. The no name stuff will probably work for a while if you haven't modded much, but those I do not trust. Most of my belt problems are related to more extreme conditions, so if you've seen my belt troubles, don't let that sway you. Most folks can put one of those on and go thousands of miles without issue.

I havn't seen your truobles. I just going for experiance with Sleds cheap belts usually leave you along the trail. Got not ready to push a scooter down the road. lol. I just know Gates used ot be a good name but I just noticed they are now made in china but not much isn't these days. I guess China parts on a China Scoot isn't that big of a deal. But I would never use China parts on my German Auto. lol

Those mods are fine. I end up modding my aftermarket varis to get more travel and then I end up with belts snapping when I take it too far. lol I know what you're saying with the brands, but Bando might be better than you think. 2strokd said in another thread that Bando makes belts for a lot of companies. Kymco (often regarded as top tier scoots) uses belts by Bando. It is also beleived that companies like Malossi and Polini get Bando to make their belts.

Thats what i read about Bando.. This was after my great luck with Bando belts. They have been around for over 40 years. I just got an OEM Bando replacement for my Cobra with a Kymco part number and Kymco name on the belt. Great belts!
