I have looked about the forum but cannot find out how to tag someone to a post. Any pointers appreciated.

Just add the @ symbol before their name. milly

When you mouse-over someone's name you can see his tag name. For example Ryan's name here shows as ryan_ott but when you mouse-over his name it says [atmark]ryanott. That is how you tag him by adding an @ mark and the name that is visible when you mouse-over.
In your case it is more straight forward since you use the same name for tag as for the forum.

milly Another way is to go to the bar at the top of the reply window and go to the:
Button and search for their name. When you find who you want then click on them and it will drop their name in.

For 90gtvert, you'd tag @ admin (without the space between the @ and admin)

Hmm....I guess I'll have to put my ignorance on display.
Just what does 'tagging' someone mean? What is accomplished?

bluegoatwoods : Tagging someone makes a tag like you see before this sentence. Clicking that tag leads to their profile. The reason we use them is generally because they may get someone's attention. For example, I wanted you to see this post so I tagged you and that should make a notification appear in your notifications feed telling you that you were tagged and allowing you to click to go to the spot where you were tagged. Just in case you aren't familiar with it, the notifications feed is within the profile section. So you should see a little bubble with a number in it beside profile in the top menu. Clicking that takes you to notifications or you can click profile and then click notifications.

bluegoatwoodsI wish to note that not everyone's name as it appears will be what you use to tag someone. Like @90gtvert will not tag Brent. But if you click on his name (try it here 90GTVert) you will see his profile page, and the username line says admin. So you would tag him using @ admin (without the space as above) But most of us dont change our "display names" from the "user names". If i confused you, it might help to try clicking lots of our names and seeing if you can find someone here who's username is different than what you clicked. Then tag their username. Lol (Edit: i did just adjust my display name, i'll change it back in a few days)

It could be that I can see it.
Dimly.
If I were to reply, as I'm doing right now, and I particularly wanted you to read this reply, then I'd 'tag' you. Is that it? And I suppose I might tag you if I were replying in some other thread and still wanted you in particular to see it?
Now I just did try to tag both you and Brent. But I can't see any sign that I succeeded. But that's not too important. If I experiment and ponder......for years probably.........I'll figure it out.

You've got the idea of the purpose.
@ admin (without that space) will tag me.
@ atariguyfc (without the space) will tag atariguy.
As said above, hover over a username with your mouse to see the name to tag.
That or just click the tag button, has an @ with a person beside it, and start typing a name and it should suggest.

Exactly! Particularly useful if you find a big hiccup on the site, you write a post, tag Brent, and he would jump right to the post from his notifications to read about the hiccup.
Or if you're in the middle of a liquid cooled build and need advice, you could tag PIG, Tsimi, or spaz12 and they could jump right to it and help you out

My user name and display name are different because the system will not allow capital letters in a user name. My user name is all lower case. @ FrankenMech (without the space) will tag me though.
I don't have a clue why proboards won't allow capitalization. All the other forums I have used allow it.
