Hello,
I’m ray and I am new to the scoot world! I don’t have a scooter yet but have been looking around. Not sure what I want to get yet as finances and reliability are hard to match up at times. I have looked at a Zuma, Ruckus, Zummer, Buddy, and many others. Right now my questions are few as I feel I have a pretty good understanding of what I am looking for.
Being in the city I am in, there is not a lot of choice dealerships. In fact we don’t have many at all. I have read up on the Toa Toa, and watched a lot of Biz Moto on YT. I don’t know if I am as mechanically inclined to do a lot of the stuff I watched on the PDI series, but I am always willing to try!
Today I looked at one I had never heard of before. It was a Wolf RX50. My wife fell in love with the Wolf Islander. They were sitting on a Yamaha dealer showroom floor, but the brand name threw me off. So as always I have to do some research.
Well it was a long introduction post, but I am sure that some of you can sympathize with me on this journey. I am open to any and all suggestions, as this 45 year old man is looking for something to scoot around town and back and forth to work.

Hey bearded! The Wolf line is quite a good looking bunch, but I am guessing they are all China manufactured. Wolf is an "American" company, but only sales? No distribution beyond Florida and upper East coast.
That said...many China made scoots of reasonable quality for your dollars. There are East coasters here, so they may be able to give you better info on the Wolf and what engine is in it.
I say, just do it! Welcome to the forum!!

Wolf is about as good as you'll get from a Chinese scooter from my understanding. They're made by ZNEN, which is top tier for Chinese manufacturers. They setup a dealer network, rather than letting anyone sell them like the majority of Chinese scooter brands. The fact that the one you looked at is sitting in a Yamaha showroom is a good sign that you can get dealer support, which is lacking with most Chinese scooters. It looks like the RX50 is quite similar to a TaoTao ATM50, but likely with better quality control and actual dealer support. We've seen numerous people that can't find a good or honest mechanic for their Chinese scooters, so having a real dealer around to go to if needed can be a game changer. The down side would be cost, as I'd expect you can't get it at a TaoTao price. Sometimes you get what you pay for though. www.wolfbrandscooters.com/scooters/wolf-rx-50/

Well as of today I have set my sights on a Honda Ruckus. I like the looks of the bike and it’s plenty big enough for what I want to do. I know it’s way more expensive, but I really like it. Thoughts?

As long as you're OK with the price, you should have a good reliable scoot with the Ruckus. Honda dealers are pretty plentiful as well. Lots of aftermarket for the Ruckus if that interests you.

Hard to argue with a Honda if you are OK with the price.

Yeah I am okay with the price I feel. I know that I can get a Wolf or Tao Tao for much, much, cheaper, but I like that Ruckus.
It’s a lot of money, but I have been saving up.
Thanks for the quick replies and friendliness. I have seen other forums that are pretty crappy to new members

So Saturday is the big day! I pick up my 2018 Honda Ruckus! I am excited and nervous all at the same time. Lol. I have never ridden a scoot before and the last time I rode a dirt bike was about 1994. I have to ride it home Saturday and I have the path planned out. Little traffic mostly and 30 MPH the whole way. I come in at a dry weight of 253 lbs so that has me a little worried also, but we will see how it goes.

I agree with bud...you are going to have a blast! The Ruckus is a good choice. Never had one, but ridden many....so many mods available. My friends daughter rides a super stretch with fat boy tires...hehe, skinny girl looks good in full gear smokin' that Ruck Truck. Something like this, only pink! Word of caution...break your Ruck in properly...if you want mods, break your wife in slowly. Get her hooked on driving, get two! Then Mods Away!

I agree with geoffh. I have ridden all sort of motorcycles most of my life and, my first ride on my 49cc scoot made me have to rethink just about everything. The small 10" wheels do not generate the gyro stability of a regular motorcycle and, I was surprised at how sensitive the steering was. I found I was gripping the bars too tight and I was weaving all over like a drunk person. It does take a little getting used to for sure no matter what your experience level. Be comfortable before you get out into traffic which is another situation entirely. Consider that all people in cars are out to kill you...because...they will if given half a chance. I am not kidding here. You must take defensive driving to the next level because sometimes, car drivers do not see motorcycles but, they NEVER see a guy on a scooter, NEVER! I am not trying to scare you, I am trying to keep you from getting hurt so you can enjoy riding your new Honda. That will be a very dependable and enjoyable ride being a Honda. Had you purchased a Chinese scoot, you would need to become a pretty competent scoot mechanic to get a lot of enjoyment out of it. Be safe, wear a helmet and good riding gear...no shorts and flip flops, and you will be fine. I wish you good times and good rides with your new scoot. Bill

So after some thought, and reading some of the advice I received I have decided to have a buddy pick me up in his truck and help me haul the Ruckus from the shop. It comes down to safety. I wanna make sure I am comfortable with the scoot before putting myself in traffic. I really want to thank you guys for bringing that to my attention and helping me probably save a lot of potential heart ache and pain!
