I’ve been having a problem with one of my minarelli based scoots for a little while now. It never seemed to run right from the get go and always burned a lot of fuel. Now when I try to run it, I can get it to run but I have to block off the intake on the carb almost all the way and while I’m doing this it will constantly be going from running lean to acting like it’s running really rich. I’ve replaced both crank seals, tried several carbuerators, checked for good compression, removed cylinder and checked for scoring and both the base gasket and the head gasket, but with no avail. When I go to start it it will be really hard to start and I have to make it flood itself to get it to start and once it’s running I have to keep my hand almost alll the way covered over the intake. I’ve also noticed as it warms up it will start to run better but still not correctly. Any ideas? It’s acting like it’s got a massive vacuum leak somewhere.

It sounds like you have an air leak. Check your intake and hoses they are likely culprits. Be sure your air box is sealed and clamps are good. Are you using the stick air box?

I’ve checked for intake leaks and even tried another another intake and carvuerator. My only guess now is that maybe it has a leak where the cases meet?
