So I have an 89 razz 2 stroke that after a while it will die at idle. If I restart it after it dies it runs for a few seconds then dies again and won't start again.
When cold it fires right up and runs like a champ. If it's on the stand I can run it as long as I want with throttle. If I go riding it and come to a stop after a few minutes the engine will die once it hits idle.
I have cleaned the carb, replaced the fuel, checked the petcock, checked compression and checked the fuel air ratio as well as idle speed.

are you saying once warm if you turn idle screw in it still wont idle? have you done a plug chop? if it has a bystarter/ electric choke, some idle really high when cold. set your idle speed screw once warm. not when cold or on choke circuit.

It has a manual choke. Idle screw is 1 1/2 turns from stop. It will idle all day long on the stand. Once I take it for a ride for any real distance. The moment the engine goes back to idle after say a sudden stop or rapid deceleration the engine will stall and die. It will then not restart until it cools down.

I was talking about idle speed screw. not the idle mixture. you're correct idle mixture screw 1.25-1.75 is acceptable. idle SPEED screw, I believe has no set turns. it can go where ever needed to keep rpm acceptable. with what you just said though, id check your float level. that can cause dying on sudden stop or after hard acceleration. might be too low
