I've wanted to do it for a while, but I do OK AC so it just seems like a lot of extra hassle and expense right now. There's something to be said for simplicity.

It's an interesting idea, but it's not for me. The very next scooter I buy it won't be a good idea. That scooter will be in storage more than it's used so a liquid cooled setup will only add complexity to the storage procedure, as well as the preparation for use. I already hate the fact that I have experienced too many occasions where several of my cars have overheated due to coolant loss. I wish we could get rid of liquid cooling in cars as it is. I simply wouldn't subject myself to that in a motorcycle unless it was absolutely necessary. At present, that's just not the case.

L/C is a great thing for all out stuff!A/c is sooo simple and works quite well.In the aircraft engine world it was once said,"a liquid cooled aircraft is like an air cooled submarine"!! :disco:

In fact I have it pencilled into my retirement to-do list to rebuild one of those things. That and a Chevrolet Corvair. Now THAT'S an air cooled car worth having!

Not sure I would say a Corvair is worth owning but most deffently an old bug or even a 2001 Mexico Bettle not sure if you know but in Mexico they made the old AC bug up till 2001. I wish I could affor an AC VW but I am doing well with my older LC VWs

I wish I could affor an AC VW but I am doing well with my older LC VWs I know we're hijacking the post with this stuff, but if the Mods will bear with us for a while longer, that would be great. The Corvair wasn't an excellent car by Camaro or GTO standards, but it was not as bad as that psychopath Nader made them out to be. They were rear engined and as such were difficult for unprepared drivers to deal with. The Porsche 911 was far worse, with the kind of power it was putting to the pavement. Later adjustments to the rear suspension made them very manageable, but the damage had already been done. Now to keep the post relevant...Air cooled scooter...I think the Europeans (Aprilia, Peugeot, et al) have brought a level of class to the idea but I don't think the majority of American scooter buyers are ready for the complexity. In Europe many people have their scooters as their only means of transport and they will take the necessary steps to keep it maintained etc. We have all seen how some folks in the US throw their scooters around, leave them outside in the elements and so on. Most cyclists in the US would only go all out on a larger motorcycle that has thousands of dollars spent on it.

A "wee" bit more off topic. I feel cars, with a rear weight bias, were defeated by the tires available at the time. We did not see street tires capable of dealing with a rear weight bias (and some power) until the late 70's, early 80's (*remembering* early Corvairs shipped with 6.00/13's and early Porsches shipped with 5.60/15's). I got some decent handling out of an early Corvair with the 6.00/13's on the front and H78/14's on the rear.
I *think* we have to carefully individually analyze the AC vs. LC thing. Are we adding complexity for the sake of complexity? What are the chances any more than about 10% of scooter users "need" LC?

@ mccanic: I can appreciate that in your neck of the woods gets pretty hot. After all..I live in Jamaica so I know all about that sort of thing. In South East Asian markets, Yamaha decided to fit lc engines to some of their models because the ac ones were overheating. The result of that modification can be seen in the YZF-R125 sport bikes. Same engine. Do what you have to do to preserve your scootering needs, my friend.
@ reveen: I fully agree. And Chevrolet acknowledged the shortcomings of the tyres by suggesting that different pressures be used fore and aft in the Corvair as a stop-gap measure. Of course I suspect that few even knew about that bit of info and just pumped everybody up to 30 pounds, baby! So what happened to your Corvair?

Thanks for the kind wishes, mccanic. I'm only 33 but I swear I was around in a previous life, living in the 60s. I love the music, the fashion, the trends, the cars, EVERYTHING about the 60s. So all that old metal is my kinda stuff...I'd love to get myself a turbo coupe, of course. But by the time I get around to it I guess I'll be out of luck. They are already hard to find. Oh...and there's this little matter of the fact that I live in Jamaica...<scratching chin> This place may be friendly to visitors, but as a national you're not heading up Shit Creak without a paddle...you're wallowing in it without a bathing suit!
