im very confused. i just got my new radio in for my scooter because my old one stopped working (or so i thought). i installed it and i got it working perfectly. i start the scooter and the radio pops and shuts off. i thought it was from the vibration of the scooter so i took the speakers and the unit off of the handle bars (only wires attached at this point) start the scooter up and the same problem. so since i had the radio wired to the power wire of my fuel gauge i decided to wire it direct to the battery thinking that this would fix the problem. WRONG. same thing. so at this point, i grab my spare scooter battery and i wire the radio to it and i stood with the radio in my hand connected to a battery that is separate from the scooter (no part of the radio is touching the scooter at this point) and i start the scooter up and IT DOES IT AGAIN! the radio pops and the thing freezes. is it possible that my scooter is giving off an EMP? im SO lost!

I'm thinking that the stator just doesn't have enough power to drive your stereo.

as i stated above, even on a separate circuit, the radio still shuts off when the scooter is started. so that definitely is not the issue

try sticking it on a car battery, or try a third radio on your scooter. at least this way you could sigle out weather its your scoot or your radio

If not currently using one, try switching to a resistor spark plug.

well i tried that too. it was weird because my radio that i had before this one was working fine before then one day when i was riding it shut off and would only work when my scooter was off. maybe a bad ground wire? its just such a odd problem. should i post a video?

the radio pops and shuts off.
I *suspect* you are not providing the "proper care and feeding" your radio requires.
Of course, the more expensive the radio, the less this is important, but there ARE limits. I *think* you will find that you are either/or both, over volting, and maybe getting some AC leakage, that your radio wants no part of.
Over volting is easy to check (with a volt meter), and if it needs correcting, regulator replacement is the answer. "Dirty" DC is a bit harder to both detect, and correct, requiring an in-line filter (on your power feed to the radio) to correct. There is a filter capacitor inside your regulator that may have gone bad.

i have a bad feeling that my stator is shorting out. when i ground the handle bars, the bike shuts off.

The handle bars should be grounded just by attaching them to the steering stem.

Check all of your grounds.

i found a ground that was corroded off, and my handle bars were not grounded. had some rubber between them and the stem (cuts down on vibrations).
