I have been scootin around on an '06 Zip R3i "turbocam" (huh?) that I have tweaked into booking down the street at 46 mph (Officer Koto of RVA Police verified). I started premixing about 90 miles back and had "looped" the oil injection by running the feed tube coming out of the pump back into the tank as well as rigging the oil level sensor so I don't have a red light on constantly. Actually, I moved the signal indicator to the low oil light as the signal indicator is so faint when I do use signals that I wanted a more noticeable reminder. The other day I noticed the feed tube was completely gone and as there was maybe an ounce of 2t oil the tank was bone dry and nothing going to the pump. I was about nine miles from home and headed on back with the scoot and didn't notice any odd noises. Is there any severe ramifications for leaving it on as is? I have so much going on that it is a pain to break out the puller and mess with the flywheel and stator getting it off. I am never going back to the oil injection on this scoot.

Running the pump dry will likely ruin it. Probably not a concern since you don't plan to go back. It would make more drag on the engine if the pump is not in proper working condition, how much I don't really know.

If you are never going back then you can remove the pump without pulling the flywheel. You just have to bend the brass tube for the oil out and the pump will come out. On mine, I took the pump out and removed the drive gear from the pump shaft and then put the pump back on so there wasn't a hole for dirt and water and stuff to get in.

I think I could pull the flywheel and just remove the gear that drives the pump to disable it faster than I could get in there to get the screws out for the pump. Those things have been pretty stubborn at times. I dunno. Just seems like by the time you do either, you might as well just finish the job though. It's not that much more time to do it right at that point. :2cents:

yeah, I guess I will just polish off the Oil pump delete and until then ride out on the Zuma. I feel like I am getting pretty good speed with premixing the vento and not upjetting. I did put the complete clutch assembly off a Yamaha Vino on it and that seems to be another catalyst for the higher speed. I am gonna post another thread concerning something I noticed with a few clutch assemblies I have and their ramp faces and will want some ideas on pros/cons of the designs....

Just a bit of info from experience... I rode with the pump dry for about 5 months without noticing any problems/noise. Could just be me. The drive gear is plastic, so it would likely strip out before stopping your engine. I did eventually remove completely. The less weight on the crank, the better!
Glad to hear the premix is working for you. Sometimes I wish I didn't have to premix, but the added peace of mind from premixing is worth it to me.

Not all the drive gears on Minarelli engines are plastic. Ive had a couple metal ones.

I would liek to find a metal one that would be cool.

Weird, I think this is my post from the original login I couldn't remember after a long lapse in scooter interest and shifting to cafe/streetfighter builds. It's interesting to see where and who I was just in the dialogue in the original post and subsequent replies. I truly had to research through all the posts to confirm my suspicions. Much has happened including teo devastating motorcycle accidents (one a impact at 40mph with a driver that suffered a stroke and ran a red light resulting in three cadaver tendons and emergency surgery for internal trauma despite full gear and the latter while at 40mph test riding my Graves ex-race effort R1 track bike in front of my shop on a very lightly used street after remapping the Graves ECM for a lope at mid throttle where a distracted driver on her phone ran over a large VDOT traffic cone and I went end over end that gave me 3rd degree burns on 30% of my body after the certified "race tank" ruptured and caught accompanied by the less serious broken in three places pelvis, this incident proving to me that the discipline of always wearing gear is not up for debate) and a return to prior profession in the PPS field which i left again following an incident that pushed all the learned skills involved in gunfighting to the utmost limits unfortunately. Why am I saying this? Sometimes documenting a reconciliation of one's past with one's present is done best by putting thumb to keypad and then placing it out in the ether. On a more relevant note, I have reignited my torrid love affair with most things 2T and am happy to announce new additions to the family including a RH50 (hear me out on a possible build: Ruckhouse), a concerning amount of Vento variants, ruckus customs including one that is fuel injected and turbo'd and even a Stihl chainsaw that began a already humongous 660r with a 42 inch Sag bar that is absolutely obscene and equally terrifying just sitting on it's shelf that no other items can sit alongside it as they fall within 24hrs that has me thinking I should investigate it's past...LOL. Glad to be back on the undeniably best forum for these little smokey bundles of joy.

Welcome back. You have been through the wringer. That's why I always wear gear. Start a build thread of the new projects. 👍
