I got a benelli m59 with two separate tanks, one for oil and one for gas. I've been using the expensive oil but was wondering if I could use the cheap stuff.

sure you can use cheap stuff if you want

but i will tell you many years ago a buddy and i both got yamaha blasters at the same time
and we rode togehter all the time
he used cheap dino oil and i used expensive synth (and back then full syth was expensive)
he had to rebuild his top end 3 times before i needed to do mine

Sure it will "work", someone guarantees it, right?

Under non-extreme conditions nearly anything you shove in there will work "good enough".

So, it is up to you to judge: if you are harder on your ride than the average guy cutting his lawn with an old Lawn Boy?

Personally: I beat the snot out of mine, so I have made the choice to use the best oil I have found.

I'm with jmk and reveen. I'd use any old 2T oil I can get in my old 2T weedwhacker or tiller. They don't run at 10,000RPM all day or see the amount of hours that my scoot engines do though. I also don't have to call a truck to pick me up if my tiller breaks down, since it never leaves my yard. lol

Same here. I, as well as many others have formed sort of a "pecking order" with oils and fuels.
The good stuff goes in my best stuff. And the midgrade stuff goes in my midgrade toys.
The cheap stuff gets burnt up in mower and or weedeater, etc. I use allot of old fuel in my mower.

I did a simple Google search for "motorcycle shop lawton michigan" and found Paw Paw Cycle. I'm sure they would have high grade 2T oils.

i run ipone and i pay about 10 bucks for a liter of it
around here if you go into most of the big box and the auto parts stores all you are going to find is store brand or cheaper dino oils for 2 strokes
yet go into a motor sports store and you will have a plethora to choose from
personaly tcw3 would never see my scooter its a lc out board oil and tends to be thicker then most injector air oils
i have only 2 things of my own that i dont run full synth oil in
1 the gear box of my stella that calls for a 30 non detergant oil
2 my 1960s ford tractor that again calls for a non detergant oil
also before i got rid of my 54 plymouth that also ran non detergant oil

i run the sam ipone in my johnson 125 out board i ran it in the weed eater till i got a dr trimmer

There is a reason why they are more expensive, not just the name. You get what you pay for, but either way - it's your scooter and your decision. I personally premix with cheapo walmart brand. In my '96 CR250 (sold), I ran Honda Synthetic only.

Not sure about your area Wal-Mart or if this applies to 2T but the Super-Tech motor oil in my area is Castrol GTX relabled. I use it in my cars. Sorry but I just can't see paying 10 for a Quart of 2T unless it for something more expensive than these cheapo scooters. Now my 2007 Ski-Doo I only use the special Ski-Doo oil. And I use the Yamaha Oil in my Yamaha.

yamaha lube is a horride oil actualy
what you see on the back of the wm bran oil is who bottleted it for wm it is never the exact same as the name brand compnay that bottles it for them

the bigest dissadvantage to running the cheaper oils will be that you will have to decoke your engine more often(that is clean the carbon and oil build ups off the internals of your engine)

1) What brand of synthetic oil were you using?
2) What brand of mineral oil were you using before?
3) Did you flush the system before you started using synthetic?
4) When you ran synthetic, did you ever mix brands of synthetic?

The reason I'm asking is that there is no way synthetic oil on its own can do any damage to your car's engine, unless you misuse it. For example, it is highly recommended that you stick to one brand of synthetic because different manufacturers synthesise them differently and there may be conflicts between them. I have found that oils such as Castrol tend to sludge incredibly in warm, humid environemnts. I had a car almost explode because of that. Luckily I caught it just in time. I never used Castrol again after that and I've been A-OK. The fact that synthetic oil is a requirement for high performance turbocharged engines is a testimony to their superiority. In fact, my own experince is this: I put a drop of mineral oil in an old fan that I have that seized and that ran for about a month before seizing again. A single drop of Amsoil and the fan ran for 6 months. Dig that. I only use synthetic in my car now, and I have used synthetic 2T but it's hard to find in Jamaica.
