a week ago i got a 2011 tao tao 50 with 1600km on it. the guy said he did the 72cc bbk it has the open filter and he put some lighter rollers in he didn specify the whieght. i live in las vegas so its really hot in the summers. this thing is real fast rips off the line and can get up to 50 really no prob but after ten minutes of riding theres a drop in performance and every time i come up to light thheres a good amount of smoke coming from my carb area i just changed the oil today and no diferance i was thinking it needs the bbk head but a few mechanics in town said that would prolly only give me like 5 more minutes of time before overheating.
any suggestions would be great

:welcome2:
It could be as simple as running lean. Check the tune and upjet the carb if necessary. It will likely need around a 90 main jet.
If the combustion chamber is too small (stock head on a BBK) it will raise compression and you get a nice performance boost, but that extra compression does make a lot of heat. Some scoots it never bothers, some it does. All of these 50s that should be identical are not when it comes to what parts are stock and what clearances they have. I agree with you, that it needs a head suited for the BBK or the current head to have the combustion chamber enlarged. Heads are cheap, so unless you just enjoy spending a bunch of time on it it's easier to buy a 47mm head.
If it's smoking, you need to look for oil leaks. As long as your oil level is not low, that shouldn't be the cause of the overheating though. Smoking around the carb, you might wanna check for intake leaks to make sure it's not leaning out from that.

ok update is went thru engine to check leaks andi found the lil black thing with 2 screws and a circle in a diamond shape the peice on the motor under it was completly loose i tightened that put the cooling shroud back on and now its blowing white smoke from the blow off valve that just hangs cuz i dont have the stock airbox anymore. after about 5 minutes of riding it dies when i come to stop to idle and starts losing performance and overall ive had the scooter for a week and its went from hiting 50 easy to now only hiting 40 easy but it still only runs for 5 mins. i think it might that the guy who installed the bbk didn do it right and didn set the piston rings right and i the gaskets blew to or somthin i have like 38$ in money right now and i dont know what to do to fix this

Have you talked to the installer and told him it's not right to see if he's willing to back up the work? That might be a good place to start.

I'm still wondering if it's just elevated compression building lots of heat. A compression test would be helpful. Is it smoking a lot out of that hose or just some very light smoke on occasion or what?

okay i just looked up the part that was loose. it was the cam chain tensioner after i tightened my moped ran alot better alot less white smoke and now the smoke is coming straight out of the oil catch hose i havnt hooked up a filter or pcv to it yet but im pretty sure that isnt my main problem. after 20-30 minutes of riding i lose a little performance and at lights ill see the white smoke again and it will sometimes slowly die but starts right back up but not as much but still good amount but its only coming from the oil catch hose thats hanging freely cuz i have a uni filter.after 5 minutes of riding i tyhink i can hear the valves start to click i can hear them becuase i have my engine cover between my seat and floorboard off so i think it needs a valve adjustment and it will be running great. i've tryed a valve adjust twice and failed so ima save for the mechanic or i might trade it for a 150cc moped which would be awsome.

Have you looked at the vid or article on valve adjustments from the Tech Library? I dunno that it's gonna help much though, I don't think this is a valve adjustment issue because it's only tapping after it gets hot and starts having trouble. Someone needs to see what kind of compression this thing has, if it's leaning out, and things related to heat first from the way it sounds.

Welcome fellow sinner!!!!!! In my experience (limited at best) Any smoke coming from the valve cover vent means your gonna need new rings. Oil is passing by and burning creating smoke in the vent tube. Maybe soft seizing Just my opinion from what I've learned. I maybe wrong. Your gonna need to check the rings out. Maybe during the 72cc bbk install they never seated right, or not gaped or, miss aligned etc..... Just something to think about but, If the tensioner was loose that tells me the 72 kit may not have been installed correctly. Take it easy on that scoot!!!! Ya don't wanna grenade it trying to go to fast. Smoke on a 4t is bad anyway you look at it.
