I just got my scooter running and the starter blew, it made this funny like loud whisling noise, so I bought a new one from the shop and it blew the first day. Im hesitant to buy another cause Im afraid it will blow too. What could it be?

Is the engine turning over? I've never heard one whistle, but they sound high pitched when they turn fast if they don't engage the engine for some reason.

Maybe the starter clutch (if it has one?) is bad letting the starter spin with the engine as its running? I could see that frying em real quick. Lil motor might even whistle at ya as the engine spins at over 4,000RPM? Skip right past the singing and start whistling lol...

Its a regular scooter 50cc starter, has nothing to do with the clutch man, I can see your point of trying to start it while the engine running and my switch was sticking a little but I don't think thats what caused it, could it have anything to do with the coil? Yes, its turning over. I have to kick start it now that I have no starter. It wasn't really a whisle sound more high pitch, then clunk. starter clutch? you mean stater?

No, he means the starter clutch. It's a gear behind the variator that the starter motor grabs. If the teeth are worn down, the starter motor can't grab it and it'll slip past it and would probably make a high pitched sound of an electric engine spinning with no load on it.

Oh OK so the gear may be slipin, well I put a new one in, I guess I will have to be careful with it. These scooters always seem to have something go wrong, replacing those gears could be a pain but may have to if this keeps happining. Do you know of anyway to repair a broken starter motor?

Your starter bendix may be your problem. It has bushings on each end see if they are good.Your starter button may be hanging up keeping start power going to it all the time.
