I used to check it back in the day never had to change it on a 2 stroke cylinder so I kinda quit doing it everytime then it just kinda fell of the check list... well I think my italkit soft seized because of too tight/ no gap... had good mix ratio, running a bit rich, no air leaks. idk do any of you check yours when installing? was I just lucky in the past? if anything with most 2t kits ive seen, the gap is excessive to that of a 4t. I believe due to air cooled and water cooled, but even the water cooled 2t ive worked with are on the larger side. thanks for any answers to this .

Brent has a calculator for that here. Look down on the page until you find it.

A very high percentage of the ones I've checked were at or over specs, but it's that one that's under spec that might get ya if you don't check. Only takes a few minutes.

Never done for the exact same reason... Literally every engine i've rebuild in my life (dozens), never checked ring gap. Didn't learn it during scooter mechanic classes nor during my work in the scooter shop. Never had an engine fail for that reason either (knocks off on wood).
But its good pratice to check it. It's quick and easy and can save you a lot of headaches and moneys.

like 90gtvert said. its that 1 kit... lol I guess ill go back to checking them again seeing how my new italkit rings were too tight. at least it didn't take out the cylinder. I like this W exhaust port and 7 transfers. I bet it'll scream on top end once its broken in. good to know I'm not the only one whos noticed this. and learn from me, even though 90% of kits don't need adjustment to ring gap, they should all be checked cause whos to say this kit is ok and this kit is not. thanks to all that chimed in!! to all out there in tvland, check your ring gaps!

I would recament doing ring gap allways can cause problems later better to be safe than sorry not hard to do and can easly be filed with 1500-2000 wet&dry paper just be sure not to go over board
