Starter was not cranking on cold starts in the morning just making noise, workaround is to impulse press it few times basically if it makes noise release and press again and until it starts might take 2-3 seconds.
I thought it was dirt that accommodated inside started from electric brushes wear that makes it struggle to turn, indeed there was plenty of dirt inside however cleaning it and sanding the cooper contact for brushes did not improve anything noticeably, still same problem. Guess need to install "high torque" starter, but since i have kick start i don't care much.
Procedure is very simple just remove starter
remove 2 bolts that holed the cover
take it apart clean sand the cooper contact with 1000-2000 grit sandpaper (if dirty) you can sand the poles also if dirty
Pardon my photo skills.

One technique to retract the brushes during re-assembly.

Nice, because it was a pain to hold them back with my fingers took me like 20 attempts before it actually fit in properly.

Another trick is a piece of paper wrapped around the armature as you slide it into the housing.in fact, oem Ford starters do this and leave the paper in there as insulation. Doesn't work tho haha goes bad after time.

I had similar symptoms and, I cleaned the starter relay as the contacts were in bad shape. That did the trick for about 6 months and it happened again so, I spent $15 on a new relay and it has been fine ever since. Bill
