Hi all. My neighbor gave me A Keeway Venus 2009, because she is moving and doesn't want to move it. Anyway, It won't turn over. It has been sitting un-ridden for over a year. I have some knowledge of basic scooter maintenance, but never on a Keeway. I've changed out the battery, checked the spark plug, etc, and power is not the issue, it just churns and churns, and never take a spark to actually turn over. The spark plug is fine. Is this a Carb. Issue? Any other thoughts?

I'd check the gas and anything that came in contact with the old gas. Carb, gaskets, cylinder, etc. Are you saying it has spark? If so check compression next.

So, it is turning over but not starting? If it was not turning over I would suspect battery, relay, etc. You say the plug is fine? Does that mean it sparks when you crank it with the plug out and grounded? If you have not checked this, I would do that next. IF you see a nice spark, that eliminates coil, wires, kill switch etc. Other than that, as mentioned above by O'Verse, I would drain all of the gas and flush out the carb. In the U.S. we have a lot of ethanol in our gas and sitting in an aluminum carb bowl does not help the carb. any. It does not take long for this fuel to go bad and worse, it absorbs water from the air like a sponge which make the fuel cloudy and nasty looking.

Thanks for the responses. Yes I took the plug out and grounded it, and the spark looked good. I am planning on draining out the gas tomorrow, and putting new in, as well as the oil. Yes it is turning over, pretty well. I took a brand new battery out of one of my other scooters and it turned over right away but won't start. Just churns and churns, so i suspected I checked the plug, and all seemed fine there. I was hoping to get it running to warm it up to drain the oil etc, but i'll just do it first and see what happens. Another friend mentioned that the Carb may be clogged up, and another mentioned the relays. No skill there.

Well, with the gas in it for over a year with no stabilizer (probably) I believe that is likely the issue. As the ethanol absorbs water and the gas itself goes bad, it will stop a scooter from starting up. If you are lucky, just draining and replacing the gas will do it and you might not have to tear into the carb. You will get an idea once you drain it on how the fuel looks. If it looks bad, that is a good sign this might be it. I use 1 oz of Seafoam per gallon in my tank to off-set the damage done by the ethanol. It is also a stabilizer in case your scoot needs to sit all winter. A lot of guys on here use it and that is how I learned about it. Good luck and let us know how you make out. Bill
