The 80w90 would be fine. Correct the gear oil won't help it start. A good carb clean and tuning will. keep the carb cleaner away from the rubber parts, don't ask how I know.

Just out of interest: how would the lean condition make the throttle stick open? I don't see the connection, and would love to learn!

It creates a condition where it seems like the throttle is stuck open. When this happens and you turn the grip back does it stay at a high Rpm or does the grip stick at full open? The slide in the carb moves with the throttle cable, so for it to be that then the grip would feel like its stuck.

The slide in the carb moves with the throttle cable, so for it to be that then the grip would feel like its stuck. At first it stayed at full open. the other time it happened it stayed at high for a moment or two, then leveled out at like half open and wouldn't go down. I had sat on her with no helmet just to run her around the driveway, so i was pretty panicked while figuring out what to do as she was accelerating. The kill switch is broken, so i just shut off the ignition. Had a look after, and I thought there was a whole lot of slack in the throttle cable at the carb end. Kinda shoved it in there again, and when i started her up it seemed to work better: could rev it up and it would go back down to idle while on the stand at least. Thought something must have pinned the cable in there. Or i could just have imagined it: never taken too close a look at the carb before, so wouldn't know how its supposed to look. Either way, I imagine cleaning the carb would help, so for sure going to do that when i get the chance. Interestingly, the exact opposite happened to me not too long ago: was trucking along, then i fully released the throttle to lose some speed. When i turned the throttle back up to full she just would not do anything: she was idling along at the lowest possible RPM, although still in gear, and sounded like she was about to die any second. After a couple of minutes she spluttered back to life and after opening her up wide for a while she seemed alright. Never happened to me since.

Most of your issues sound like they could just be due to old gas, dirty carb, etc... Maybe some air leaks around the carb.
You actually have a kill switch? My Predator just has an on/off switch for the lights.

No kill switch on mine either. Thats European spec. My Velo they added a kill switch for DOT but it doesn't do anything. Found that out doing a plug chop.

Mine has a big red switch which seems to be completely cosmetic. Wont even move. Just stuck there, bright red, and looking kindof awesome but kindof chintzy at the same time.

I have a Derbi Predator o2 Replica. Check out what Pirate Labs suggested as well as the transmission fluid. It may need changing if its never been done.. When you spin the wheel there should be a very small amount of play, thats nothing to worry about, a large amount could be a problem. if you stand at the back and the wheel moves left to right then you have a problem. A video might help us diagnose better. Just while you're here: what kind of transmission fluid would you recommend? What's important to look out for? Edit: As far as I can figure out from the sevice manual, she needs SAE 75w90. If she's hard to start when cold, would it be better to get oil with a lower w value? Is that a bad idea? I use Mobil 1 motor oil in my scoot gearbox. A tuner from shop here in Hawaii that specialized in minarelli engines recommended that use Mobil 1. I'm not saying you should use it. I use it and I've had good results, but we do unorthodox things to mopeds here in Hawaii.

Thats your starter switch. The gray one is the light switch. What switch are you using to start it?

I think in the video, it was kick started.

Its a pretty common switch. This guy here has some Derbi parts but make sure they are for the Derbi engine not the Piaggio. Call him if you are in doubt. But with some research you might find a replacement. I would open the one you have up if you can, contact cleaner might solve your problem.

Low on the priority list now though: first going to figure out what the engine noise is about. Dunno if it came across so well in the video, but something either sounds like wind whistling on the edge of a house or like metal rotating on metal. I'm worried she's chewing through something. Got the transmission oil, going to change it in a couple of days, then when I have time going to attempt to get the cover off of the CVT and see if there's any play in the variator. Thats for sure around where the sound seems to be coming from.
