.some folks can not and will sit through a green light while arguing with someone on their phone.
Man, I see this every day. Many of them couldn't care less if other people have places to go. This one hits home because it happens so often. At major intersections, especially on Left turn signals. Some idiot up front will just be sitting there burning up the green light on a Long wait cycle so only one or two cars (out of 25 or 30) get through. Down here, I've learned to just slide up front, past all the cars I can. Some get angry but it's still safer than being back in the pack of distracted drivers texting etc.
As far as the texting while driving law..... I disagree. That needs a specific Statute for that because it impairs your driving. Period. Noone can text and drive at the same level of attentions as if not texting. Noone.
Being on a conversation is not quite as bad. But still a lot of people are killed and injured each year due to it and ya know, when I'm on the scooter or motorcycle, I want those suckers paying FULL attention to driving.
Besides, the people here are too stupid to figure out that a "Distracted Driver Law" covers texting while driving.

There is no madness 'zone', it is EVERYWHERE! Please don't say that. It CAN'T be as bad in Elk Grove, Iowa as it is in Miami Florida or Chicago, IL for example! NO CHANCE! Not even the same Universe.
Iowa is a soul sucking state full of selfish entitled children for the most part, the ATV crown just whined till they got to ride on county roads, and then turned around and started complaining about bicycles on the road because they have trails. The ATV crowd has the newest OHV park in Iowa right in town...

Down here in FL texting while driving (moving or even stopped at a red light) is illegal. BUT! They can't pull you over just for that. Has to be a seperate offense...reckless driving, running red light/stop sign.
I would love to get a helmet camera. But of course, can't have one attached to the helmet here in FL. Can't have anything attached. Unless it's permissable by federal law.
But having huge goggles strapped around your helmet and above the visor...that's perfectly fine. Go figure.

Florida is among just a few states remaining that refuse to see that texting while driving is deadly. They flat out refuse to even consider the bill in the Florida senate claiming racial profiling "could" occur. Meanwhile people of ALL races are dying.
I didn't know it was illegal to have a helmet camera in Florida. That's exactly where I have one attached and have never been pulled over for it. I'm not sure it is illegal.

Well again, IT IS illegal to text and drive in FL. But cops can not pull you over only for that. Stupid, i know. You have to do something other than texting and driving for them to pull you over. Once they do, THEN they can write you a ticket for the texting. Along with whatever they pulled you over for first. Again, stupid. You could technically text while driving right next to a cop and they can do nothing about it. But swerve, run a red light, take a swig of your beer...then they got you. As for the helmet camera. FL doesn't actually have a law for/against helmet attachments. Therefore they revert to Federal law. A friend of mine was in Tampa Bay riding with a helmet camera. As he has for years. A cop pulled him over and told him to take it off or get a ticket. After talking with his next door neighbor, a lawyer, he stated what i wrote about FL following federal law. And about the goggles. Fed law states you can not have an attachment thicker than 5mm. But its okay to have goggles, which are way thicker than 5mm, wrapped around your helmet even if you are not using them. Most cops you ask will say they won't waste their time pulling someone over just for helmet cams. It's not a high priority. Only the prick cops having a bad day.
