I believe you are correct but if im not mistaken he also has the phillips heads bolts for the cover itself. Yeah well if that's the case then I would change them to hex bolts but for the plastic cover I think regular bolts might not work well.. The Phillips screws they use seat against the engine but they don't crush the plastic due to their design.

Ok I got it now. Thank you very much for the help. The impact driver worked beautifully. I went ahead and replaced the bolts with allen wrench headed bolts that seemed stronger. I like the look a lot better as well. Looks more professional. Replacement bolt information for CVT cover Small bolts (x8) - M6 x 25mm with a 1.00 pitch Large bolts (x2) - M6 x 35mm with a 1.00 pitch

You managed to get the CVT cover off too? Was that all philips heads as well like mine was? If so, I'm sorry to tell you but you don't have a 1E40QMB like the rest of us. RX8's with philips bolts on the CVT cover is actually a 1E40FM, which is significantly different in the top end, and I'm pretty sure it's different in the CVT area as well. I haven't gotten my CVT cover off yet because I still have 2 stubborn screws that are totally stripped. But looking through the front vent port on the cover, it looks pretty different.

Have these been known to be stamped incorrectly? Is that what my "-A" distinction is?I know my CVT cover looks totally fcking crazy compared to any other I've seen on the internet. (I'm digging the manufactured air scoop). When I look through my CVT cover front air port, all I see are the gears for the kickstarter...And when I remove the cover, everything looks pretty standard.

The top end of a 1E40FM is totally different. It's much bigger than our 1E40QMB's, in fact its almost as large as a 70cc cylinder. It's a special engine designed by Linhai and Yamaha. The CVT looks stock though, but I'd check out the cylinder. If it is in fact a 1E40FM, it should be stamped right on the cylinder, against the case. If not, you're lucky because I don't think that 70cc 1E40QMB top ends will fit on the 1E40FM.

OK well now I'm convinced. There are just too many variables here. I'm pulling my top end apart and making sure I know what I've got, before I buy the wrong part. New project for tomorrow.

I know that the bore is still 40mm, but I'm not sure of the stroke. I should run out to the garage and take a picture of the top ends of both of my engines so you guys can see the differences.

Ok so heres the pictures. You can see how much bigger the first one (1E40FM) is compared to the standard 1E40QMB.
