The four stroke probably had an easier time finding traction. The two stroke must be making more power, but it's getting it through the tyre without spinning. The fact that only really KTM has invested any real R&D into two strokes in the last ten years must help the four stroke too. 😉

I reality, on the track there's not much difference between an older 2t and a modern 4t.
But a two stroke is way more fun to ride, sounds better, smells better and is easier to work on!

I love my old 89 kx 250 bbk to 295cc,it's a beast!!😀 but I am getting a bit old to really ripp it like I used to.lol,but I still try..😎

I fully enjoy the false hope of 4T smoking a 2T. That said, I do maintain that there is driving "synergy" in both, depending on your needs and desires.
There is no doubt in my mind that with today's fantastic suspensions, that a 2T MotoGP bike would not lose out over a 4T. The difference would be track configuration.
For super moto in street garb? Give me the 4T. Race setup? 2T all the way! Enduro fun is a toss up...depending on length and altitude.

For longer events riders seem to like the lighter weight of a smoker.
