I can't get my engine to idle even though speed screw is wayyy in. Even tried a 38 pilot jet, what size pilot jet should I use after installing a big bore kit? Have already cleaned carb, checked fuel line and filter and petcock. Help???

Is this the same or a new carburetor? Did it sit for any length of time (could it just need cleaning)? Have you re-checked the valve lash settings? Made sure there are no fuel leaks?
You don't always have to change the pilot jet. But you will have to change the main jet most likely.
Timing could be off by a tooth?
Water sitting in the bottom of the gas tank?

Ok, cleaned carb again, double checked fuel line and petcock and still won't idle like normal unless speed screw is more than all way in. The ONLY two things left possible are the unrestricted cdi I put in and the a9 camshaft. Question- what would the engine run like if I installed the camshaft off by a tooth or two???

What is the 'speed screw'? Is it the hard-stop of the throttle linkage, or the idle mixture screw?
If the first, you likely are not running on the idle system, but the 'intermediate speed' system... pilot jet. I would check the elbow for missing/damaged O-ring or gasket surfaces that are dirty or damaged. The O-ring can fall out without making noise, or actually get fed to the engine in the worst of cases. A leaker will cause hard start and difficulty running at lower rpms. tom

If ok, it's probably not timing.
You didn't answer the questions so I can't really go any further.
Keep at it, you'll get it.

By speed screw I mean idle speed screw on throttle linkage. Power above idle is ok, not impressive by any way. After work I'll put original camshaft back in an see want happens.

have you not tried messing with the air fuel mixture screw? I would try that before I went swapping cams again. you bought the cam for a reason, make it work.

So finally had a chance to put the original cdi back in to see if any difference. Now it will idle like normal, so I obviously need to examine the "performance" adjustable cdi I bought. I never messed with the adjustable timing knob on it, maybe it was all the way down, making it not be able to idle right? I will surely go back to making only one change at a time to motors, easy to pin down problems that way.
