I was reading the maintenance manual for the Triton R4 and it said to grease the rollers in the variator. Do you guys do that and if so with what? BTW - there wasn't any sign of grease in the variator I took off.

I prefer powdered graphite applied to the rollers and roller tracks. I've heard of people 'coloring' their rollers and tracks with a soft-leaded pencil. Someone used to market a graphite crayon but I can no longer find them. If you go into your variator on a pretty regular basis grease is fine but it will eventually dry out if you're not too keen on busting open that tranny cover very often.
Edit:
I also use graphite on my variator's boss & bushing.

I use both. I run Stage6 grease on Skeedr,s weights and usually take graphite powder and rub it into my weights for my Cobra

I've never greased the rollers on any of my scooters. It's a bad idea in my opinion cause grease and belt drives don't mix. I use Dr. Pulley weights exclusively. They are like Teflon. They don't need anything. www.unionmaterial.com/Wear%20Resistance.htm

You have to put a VERY light coating of grease on you weights or you can risk getting it were you dont want it. Just enough to glaze the weight. Works good on wedge and roller style. I was skeptical at first too. But when i started buying high end S6 rollers for Skeedr i noticed every roller pack comes with a small packet of grease. I thought "man if they are taking the time to put a packet of S6 grease in every pack of 3 weights i gotta try it"! It works! But hey, running them dry did too, just not as well IMO.
I think any lightweight grease will work. The trick is not applying too much.

well - the actual Vento service manual calls for grease but does not say what to use. I like the idea of graphite tho. Bert? What do you think?

Who's Bert?
I never use grease on mine. I have used graphite. Haven't seen any big difference.

I think with the heat generated and the G forces involved any grease would liquefy and fling off all over the inside the case within the first 5 miles after applying it.
