Hello.
My bike keeps leaking through the base gasket. I have replace it twice but still no luck.
I'm suspecting foul play from either the cylinder or engine case.
Now I want this baby sealed, and another base gasket is not gonna cut it.
I have stumble upon it several times on this forum, where rtv is mention as a solution.
My question is, do you think this will hold if its done probably? And how much should I use? should I use rtv on both surfaces?
I dont wanna screw over the oil channel.
If anybody has a picture lying around, on how much to use, dont be scared to uploade it.
Also how much will this raise the compression, compared to milling the head? And will the difference in-turn of compression, be noticeable compared to stock?

There's no good reason the base gasket should chronically leak.
Are you sure the hollow dowels are in the right place?

Yes I'm pretty sure.
Well its not a whole lot oil, just a few drops. It only happens after long trips.
At first I thought it was the valve cover, but it check out alright. It's coming from the bottom of the cylinder.

Not super uncommon to have minor case warping issues, especially if your engine is old...Check for excessive bearing vibration, proper torque, maybe a leak down test. All the little things. If you do pull off the top end, check for true at both surfaces. It is kind of hard to do, but you can use a simple laser pointer or a straight edge...easier to remove the studs. You will need to anyway if you need resurfacing. I am not a fan of RTV by itself, though it can be done. I have used it super thin on existing gaskets with some degree of success. On aluminum cases, I always used a bit of Yamabond. Maybe OK for cylinder base as well.
Your engine is likely carrying more heat on longer trips, so drip, drip, drip. You are smart to find out why.
