................did you damage the carb mouth by trying to weld the plate to it? No damage, I tried to tack it in place with the TIG. The carb itself seemed to accept the weld however the divider did not seem to like being welded. I have no idea what grade of aluminum I used to fab the plate, I may try again with something I know will accept weld.

I had some time this evening before dinner to fit the new pipe. I had to do it at the house laying on the ground, which really made me appreciate my scooter lift even more. I got it fitted well enough to ride it back to the shop tomorrow. No time today to ride it back over to the shop but I did start it up, definitely quieter than the other one.

I rode it to the shop today. The new pipe is much quieter, offers more power in the low end but less in the top end. I have an order I made on the 6th from ScooterTuning.ca that is lost in shipping hell. As luck would have it, the needles I ordered for the PWK are in the order that is missing. I really want to try a couple different needles in the PWK carb before I give up and slap a 21mm Dellorto PHBG on it. oldskool took a ride on this scoot today, he came back smiling.

We have been busy at work for the last couple days, so no scooting but this evening I worked in a short ride because the weather is so nice, it gets much colder for us next week. I am still waiting on the needles for the PWK I ordered on the 6th, they should be here Monday I am told.
This scoot is pretty fun to ride with this V8 style pipe on it. It is not very fast nor is it wheelie popping the way the clutch is set up, its just quick to get up to speed and controllable. I really would like to get this PWK carb right and not have to swap it out with another style. Right now it is really a light switch on the throttle, I gotta keep it away from the nasty lean at 1/4 throttle and the richness at the top. Actually it responds well around 1/3rd to 2/3rds throttle positions.
One part of me wants to keep it just like it is but with a better carb tune. The other part of me wants a proper chamber pipe and some iggy advance to see what it can do.

This is the TWH pipe that recently fell off of the scoot when the mount broke while I was riding. I thought I would look are repairing it today. I happened to look through the outlet and realized I could see the open end of the cone inside. Samodel cut the end of his pipe off and there was not much there. I decided to cut my pipe apart to see what could be done to make it better. The piece cut from the pipe weighs 2.26lbs alone. There was less than a handful of packing in the pipe, a poor attempt to make it not so loud. I may enlist 190mech to take a look at dimensions and see if there is any help for it, but he already mentioned the steep angle of the header is a significant problem. Maybe Ill just put a stinger on it and a regular external silencer or possibly a pention style muffler for it. I can always just weld it back together as is.

The needles I ordered for the 28mm PWK that were supposed to be here this coming Monday, came today. I went home and picked them up late afternoon. I been doing some research on the PWKs, lots and lots of it. I input some info about the build into a spread sheet I found and it recommended a setup way different from what I currently had. The previous setup was using a 139MJ, 45PJ, #5.5 slide and a JJK needle. The new recommended setup consisted of a 171MJ, 40PJ, #4 slide and a JHJ needle. At first the new setup would not even move the scoot.
So I moved the needle clip, tweaked the air screw and it quickly got a lot better, but a bit rich through the entire range. The wicked lean spot just off throttle was gone and the pig rich top end was gone. I made a bet with myself that if I removed the air filter and ran it without one it would be nice. I won the bet! it seemed to really come to life. Shortly thereafter my S6 extended air screw fell out somewhere on my 1/8 mile test road and I spent 45 min walking it, searching for it in the dark with a flashlight LOL! I did manage to find it but the spring was long gone. I could not find a suitable replacement spring in my spare parts so I used some Teflon tape on the threads to tighten it up. Thats all I got done tonight. Tomorrow I hopefully will find a tune that works with the airfilter because I am not going to run it without something on there. Maybe some type of oiled foam filter would be better?

I've experienced this before with pwks runs great until you start to add a heavy low flow filter

I took a nice ride today with the setup from last night and the air filter installed. Idle to about 1/2 throttle is the best I have ever had on a PWK. I can pretty much be anywhere in that range and it runs and pulls good. Anything past roughly 1/2 and it bogs pig rich unless I am going over 50mph then up to about 2/3 will work. I think what is happening is the air filter can provide enough air at up to 1/2 throttle but anything past that and it cannot flow enough air. I would like to try it without the air filter for a while but I dont think that is a good idea around here. I am working on a screen cover to go on the carb mouth that will also have a very fine mesh screen, I might give it a try if it works out ok.
Last night I ordered the polini big boy high flow foam air filter, its huge. I now sorta wish I had not ordered the monstrosity, its going to look well....BIG Lol
I also ordered the HPI iggy for DIO from the land of Treats. It has 60W lighting coil and I will eventually get the dual curve CDI they offer.
I am really liking riding this scoot, the power is addictive. It tops out around 62mph at just under 10K with this V8 pipe on it but that is fast enough for now. I am really surprised this S6 clutch is holding up. I have heavy springs and max adjustment on it and it seems to take my abuse well. With this V8 pipe I should try to loosen the clutch up to see if the wheelie power is there. Currently on launch the front wheel comes momentarily but then it sets right back down, very controlled feeling.

I looked at the Iggy you had mentioned last night, but was a bit saddened when I realized they are all sold out. Wow and just took notice that the Tri Port was a 81cc.

Even though I ordered the big Polini foam filter, I have still been working on a screen style filter to test with. It is almost done I just need to drill and tap three set screw holes to be able to secure it to the carb with. It has a double layer screen, 1 stainless steel screen about the size of standard window screen and 1 very fine mesh stainless screen cut from a thrift store splatter guard. I picked up that splatter guard years ago and finally used it for something Lol!

That fine screen may be quite restrictive as the total area it draws through is a fraction of the area of a standard air filter element. It is worth a try though!!

Treatland order got here today, they get an A++ for getting the order here so quick. However the Polini big boy foam air filter is one of the biggest pieces of krap I have ever seen, that's $59 shot to hell. The HPI iggy system looks nice but the taper on the flywheel is wrong so I guess it will be returned.($250) The three PWK slides I ordered came labeled #1, #2, and #3 are identical to each other and are actually #5's That's another $45 dollars wasted unless I send them back.
