Cooler rainy weather today so I got some scooter work done. It took a while to get the repair to the gearbox done, lots of trial fittings, but hopefully it is good again. Changed all of the bearings, and installed the Malossi tall gears. Fired it up and took it for a spin. It really is a pig on launch and just till it gets moving good. After it gets moving its decent. I tried some lighter sliders and it helped a bit. I also tried a stiffer contra spring and a slew of other changes but in the end I dont like it enough to keep it the way it is. In the process of all the changes I used about half the life of my basicly new artek clutch and blued up the malossi clutch bell pretty bad. Also at some point I developed a little miss in the ignition that comes and goes, but overall the motor itself sounds and feels good. On the one speed run I did I saw 56mph and that was with the ignition missing a bit. I have 3 routes I can think of for this motor, 4 if you include the trash pile. One possibility is to use a set of stock gears from a spare set of cases I have, but I really dont want to risk screwing up the gear set from a stock set of unmolested cases. Another possibility would be to find another set of stock gears on feebay, but the gears are pretty rare. My last idea is to open the throat of the cases up so the 54mm cylinder will slide in and see if that has what it takes to pull those tall gears. Any thoughts?

if you open up the throat and go with the 54mm bore, I'm pretty sure the 120cc will pull those gears. everything I have read about the Honda blocks, tuners say that 7.0 or less is for full strokers. ---but that is the Hawaii guys.

Thanks very much for the input! My thoughts were that 120cc could pull those gears. Maybe not with my 300lbs in the seat but it should be close. I have a bunch of time invested in these cases getting the 52.6 stroker crank fit and doing the other mods and repairs. I really have no desire to split the cases again, so If I open the throat on them I am going to get it done without splitting them.

If you cut them without splitting the cases use duct seal to seal off the crank area I’m sure you know what it is but for others it’s the grey putty that goes around electrical openings. It’s softish, pliable and removable and keeps the aluminum out of the crank.

in the submarine repair world we call that stuff "monkey shit". great idea.

no worry, I will be joining you at some point.
im a minarelli guy, but get lots of fast Hondas/SYMs here in Honolulu. I plan on acquiring another Honda based block and building a stroker. on Craigslist and at local shops, they sell the Taida 52, 54 watercooled bores, as well as a Taida stroker pipe. they also sell the 52 stroker cranks. once I finish my SYM dd50 engine, im gonna build a Taida stroker for sure. 52 watercooled bore with the 52 crank for "square bore". I seen a listing for a stroker crank that can use stock Honda bearings, not the thin bearings.

I am currently trying to determine whether gears from the GY6 will fit this SC10 gearbox. They are very similar in design, but I have yet to measure or closely compare them. You can find the GY6 stuff on ebay, and some of the listings have detailed dimensions in them. They are cheap$ too. I would really like to get back to, or at least close to the stock gearing on this build. I know it runs decent as it is configured, and I would like to test it further before I even think about cutting these cases for a larger cylinder. In the meantime I have been getting Scootopia cleaned out, organized, and ready for some serious work. It could happen

Would be great if the GY6 gears fit. Would open up a lot of options.

12" on an elite, your gonna basically have to have rubber band for a tire.

Yeah looking to fit a mina clone shaft in the af18 cases just wanna make sure I get the same length not to worried about the o.d I can always swap the bearing the shaft goes through only issue is I don't have my elite tore down yet
