Hey fellas, Has anyone ever run a smaller bettery like this; www.jaycar.com.au/12v-1-3ah-sealed-lead-acid-sla-battery/p/SB2480My scoot is a typical 1e40qmb and is not using the estart. So all the battery is there for is the indicators and rear brake. Bike is shifting at ~10k rpm which could cause issues over charging perhaps. My intension is the relocate the battery out of my seat bucket so my helmet can fit Additionally loose a small amount of weight. Cheers

Ive ran the small Milwaukee 12v batteries on my scooters when short a battery. a fully charged battery will electric start my chopper spree, which has a variated AF05E with a milled head for higher compression, h6 25w? fog/ headlight, led tail light, and led underglow lights no problem and the charging system keeps it fully charged to do again and again. im sure they weigh less than that battery, and about the same price. so you have a lighter option there. but to answer your question, yes it should.
one thing to consider though is your ignition system. is it AC or DC? I believe AC can kick start and run with no battery, while DC iggys need initial voltage to "jump start" the system and creat spark, but once running can run with no battery.

ok then. like I said I've done it with a smaller battery than the one you're thinking of getting. shouldn't have any problems with what you're trying to do. have fun!

One could run that engine with no battery, but there goes the lights lol What if someone used a "big" capacitor and inductor to store a small charge for lighting instead of a battery? Just curious... FrankenMech?

Harley has it right. Without a battery you loose the E-Start but everything else will work if you have an AC CDI. A working regulator will still keep the lights from blowing up etc. None of the lights will work without the engine running. There is a safety issue in that the tail and stop (all) lights will go out if the engine stalls or quits. A big capacitor won't really help.

Im not using the e-start, just wanting a smaller battery say 500g or so.
I am mainly worried about the charging system delivering too much current for the battery to handle
