This has happened 2 times now. I will be cruising along at full throttle and the engine dies. The first time I heard a faint pop and just coasted off to the side of the road. I hit the starter and the scoot fired right back up and ran like a champ. No issues for the next 1000 miles. Then, yesterday I was moving along and i felt it loose power, like I hit a large headwind. It slowed and then the engine just cut out slowly. I coasted to a stop and tried to restart but it just cranked. I let it sit for 5 min and then it restarted. I pulled the plug and replaced it, as well as the cap with an NGK. Any ideas on why its doing this?

:welcome:
Sounds like maybe a soft seize. It could need a little larger main jet. How does the spark plug look after a bit of riding?

I pulled the plug and it was a carmel color...looked pretty good. The engine is deregulated, but completely stock. I guess I could pull the jet and go up one size but i thought the stock jet was fine as long as no mods were done?
What exactly happens on a soft sieze?

Usually the stock jet is fine on a stock scoot, not always.
A soft seize is when the aluminum piston heats up (most commonly from a lean condition) and expands faster than the iron cylinder. Usually you're just riding along and it dies out. Sometimes it restarts immediately, sometimes it takes a few minutes to cool down before it will start. I caught a soft seize on the vid below.

It never happens on cool mornings, only sunny afternoons after a long full throttle run.
Will a larger jet solve this?

That definitely makes it sound like a heat issue and more fuel will make it run cooler. Make sure the fan and air shrouds are clear.

If this scooter is stock or close. Ide bet it is getting hot too. Have you tried moving the needle clip to a richer position? A leak test might not be a bad idea. I had a very small air leak once that hardly effected the performance around town, stoplight to stoplight. But if i took it on a long WOT stretch it softseized on me.

On a stock scooter, with good plug colour, I'd bet money on a vacuum petcock going bad.

Yeah, plug looks great. Its not spotty or white. If the scoot idles for 3 or 4 minutes it starts to smoke so i know its getting oil. I go through a liter of oil in around 400 (+- 75 miles) I don't know if thats normal or not, what do you guys think?
How many times can you softsieze it w/out scoring the cylinder and ruining it? This scoot sees at least 25 miles a day full throttle. I have put 2200 miles on it in 2 and half months.
If the piston siezes, won't it momentarily stop the rear wheel or doesn't a CVT work that way?
Can i richen the carb by adjusting the air fuel? How hard is it to move the pin on the needle?

I just watched the vid. Mine does not die so abruptly ( It can take a few seconds) but the result is the same.
