I had to buy a new engine for my Baja sc50. The Baja is a DC fired scooter but the engine I got is an AC fired engine. What all do I need to change or check to be able to install and run this engine. I'm assuming the easiest way would be to just but a new magneto, stator and pickup that runs DC and then all else should be fine? Or if I have to use the AC stator that the engine came with would I need to replace wire harness? Cdi? Coil? Any help would be very much appreciated!

You could swap in the Baja original parts, stator/flywheel/pickup and CDI and you would connect the wires as before. If they will bolt on, you should be fine. The alternative is to get an AC CDI, and connect the 'exciter' winding of the stator to the new CDI, and do NOT connect the DC voltage from the ignition switch to the new AC CDI. The color codes of the stator outputs should be findable on the web, maybe even on this site(I think it is). Basically, the engine you bought will RUN without anything connected, except it has to have an AC CDI to operate the coil & spark. I bet a generic AC CDI, available at a lot of places as it is more common, would work fine. Get the pinouts for AC & DC CDIs and compare. Wire in a new AC version (including the exciter raw AC voltage that operates the CDI) to match everything except the DC voltage. One last thing is do NOT wire the new CDI to DC voltage or it will let out the magic smoke, and never work again. You will also have to connect the KILL switch so that it grounds the exciter voltage or CDI output. tom

You can use the original DC-CDI on your new engine.
The ignition pickup on your new engine will work fine with the DC-CDI, just hook it up from new engine as normal to correct pick-up pin on DC-CDI.
Because your original DC-CDI was supplied 12 volts by the battery (use as normal).
On new engine, there is no need to hook up the stator AC supply that would normally supply the ac voltage to an AC-CDI.
yellow and white stator wires will be same.
