Snapped the 15 year old plastic tailgate handle today, it's always opened hard, got a new assembly on the way and get that fixed up shortly. Brakes are go for now, but I think new rotors will be in order next time around. I love 4 wheel disc, drums and me never ever got along on anything. Now that I've got the pressure washer, I'm going to hit the under side good and nail it with some kind of undercoating wherever the factory stuff is missing.

Coating the underside of a used vehicle just seals in the salt. You absolutely can not remove the salt with any amount of washing.

I plan on using a decent salt neutralizer first, Eastwood has a decent one that some DOT studies showed fairly effective at higher concentrations, it's what the plow guys around here use if they do too.

The oldtimers would spray undercarriage with used motor oil. Worked great for fighting rust , but not the greatest environmentally.

Worst I ever had for rust was a 96 F150 Flareside, only thing that didn't rust on the body was the plastic flareside, and on the underside the oil pan, both leaf springs and the drivers side spring mount rusted out.

I doubt oil would do much to stop salt really, all it needs is the slightest chink in the armor, and it's typically applied as a brine any more, so get a nice fine salty mist everywhere, best defense other than a good under coating is routinely washing the under carriage well, all the automatic car washes around here have a spray bar for that purpose, supposedly contains salt neutralizers, but even if it did, the actual time you spend driving over the bar would barely wash dirt off.

My 85 Ford van rusted everywhere. On my 93 Ford ranger all the frame brackets rusted off. My 03 Chevy venture van is rusting the rocker panel area, 'the unibody'.I fully expect the rear wheels to drop off. Then I can bolt on a couple of casters from HF.

My truck has to park out in the driveway for this beast temporarily, a 4.7L twin turbo making 362HP and 406 pounds of torque, 0-60 in 6 flat with the caviat that it has to have 91 octane minimum or it starts cussing at you in german. By comparison, on 87 octane E10 my Sierra makes 300HP and 360 pounds of torque.

Drove to Ames for supper tonight, in the 450, 3 times we had people think they were going to be smart and cut us off, 3 times that 4.7 put us back in our seats in an incredibly "I ain't your grandpa" manner... we are currently re-evaluating plans to sell it and selling her Renegade instead... the Camaro SS especially put a big ol grin on my face, kid did not expect what happened at all...

With about 1200 miles racked up since purchase,the drivers side tie rod started going south, so we took it to the shop and had them go through the front end while we were in CO, news tie rods, idler arm and alignment. Picking up brake parts tomorrow, new rotors and pads all around, shopping tires too, currently has LT265/75/16, should have LT245/75/16, I don't know that difference really affects much other than the speedo being off a couple miles.

The slightly larger tires throw the computer off a little, mileage, power, and performance can suffer. They can also affect ride, rolling resistance, and tire wear. -But they look good.

Everything on the first wheel brake service went like butta, until I encountered the caliper bracket bolts armed only with a 15" breaker bar and a can of WD40...
