Just shook hands on this nice 08' F250 Super Duty, 112K miles, no holes, minor surface rust in a few spots I can fix, tow package, has broken exhaust stud which is being fixed now, should take delivery this afternoon or in the AM.

That did not go well at all. Picked up the truck, got about a half mile away, about the time the temp gauge started moving and bam, any attempt at accelerating resulted in sputtering and back fire, limped it back to the dealer, the guy had left, the gal was at the counter still processing the paperwork, so I just reached out and grabbed my check and title for the trade in before she realized what I was doing and said sorry, the truck is yours and left. Guy called me about an hour later, I explained what happened and said the muffler shop must have screwed up something and pretty much that was it, I told him as long as I got my money and trade back I had no gripe with him and left it at that. So off we went shopping, and tomorrow morning at 9 we're taking a 2003 GMC Sierra 1500 H/D SLE crew cab with the 6.0L gas, has high miles at 173K, but the previous owner provided meticulous service records, and the dealer ran a full diagnostic on it as, so I'm overly concerned at this point. Loaded with all the options, heated leather seats and even 4 wheel steering.

So when all was said and done, I was misinformed on the truck. It was an SLT, not an SLE, it has new exhaust from the manifolds back with a very pleasing growl from 6.0, it has the rear DVD player, plus two bonus points, one for each grandson, and it was just under the mileage limits for a legit 24K/2 year powertrain warranty, no rust, no dents, needs a detail, off the lot TTL for just under $9500.
After about 60 miles on an evening state park loop, I still gotta smile on my face. It will probably be on my face till I go fill it up...

Also, if you grab the cupholder and pull up on it, you have access to a secret hiding spot in the center console

Slight heart attack this morning, we took a road trip down to Ankeny yesterday, so we have about 250-300 miles on it, ran and drove perfect, no complaints at all, went to start it this morning, popped right off with a smooth idle, and then 3 dings and the warning comes up reduced engine power... Shut it off, let it set for a few seconds, same thing, did it 3 times and when I put it in gear, definite limp mode.
Called the dealer, told me to take it a shop a block over from him that handles the warranty work in town, but says it doesn't kick in for 30 days so they handle it themselves, got no reason to be distrustful at this point I guess, but on the other hand when I started it to take to the shop, the CEL comes on but no warning and it appeared to run fine with full power all the way to the shop.
Hoping it's just a simple thing, prolly sensor or computer related, thus a headache.

Are we taking bets?
I'm gonna go with faulty throttle position sensor. They are a notorious fail on GMT800 Vortec engines at those miles. I had GMT800 Burbs with both the 6.0 and the 8.1 and they would consistently fail to the point that I carried a spare on hand. Luckily, they're cheap.
Anyway, good luck.

Leann Condition bank 1 was the first code, throttle body code was the second one, throttle body was replaced last December, suspects the plug was bad and they replaced it and it got corroded, been running all day no problems. We'll see how it goes.

Pickup Trucks have sure gotten expensive compared to 15 years ago. Even on the used market. I remember buying a 5 year old Isuzu pickup (stickshift) for $2500 from a guy that worked as a swimming pool boy. Yeah, you dont see prices like that anymore.
The pickups are super expensive now.

A broken exhaust stud can leak O2 into the system and throw off the emission controls. I had that happen on an 82 GM.
Some used vehicles are on the market to get rid of the PO's 'un-fixable' problems...

Some used vehicles are on the market to get rid of the PO's 'un-fixable' problems... Turned out to be a cracked spark plug according to the dealer, which sounds reasonable, especially if you got someone breathing down your neck to get the job done. The Sierra on the other hand has been running just fine, and I got nothing but love for this thing ") Even bought a carrier for my wife's mobility scooter so we can haul it around with us on trips where there's a lot of walking.

Got about 500 trouble free miles or so now, so I went ahead and spent the day with the Maguires arsenal, short of a professional paint cleaning and buffing, not sure it can get any shinier. Got a tonneau cover coming tomorrow and new tires are on the menu next week, and as expected I have become the go to uncle as we clean out my mother in laws house and get ready to close the estate. FYI, if you know anyone interested in a fully loaded 2014 Mercedes GL450, never touched by anyone but a Mercedes dealer, we apparently now own one and have no intention of keeping it, drove it to CO and back, ain't having no vehicle telling me how to drive and taking the wheel and brakes when it wants to...
